Dear capitu,

I have always thought that the little corner of fandom with your name on it was a glorious place, but this month, after reading about how you had completed your 1000th rec at your journal my_drarry_recs, and then seeing your wonderful post about writing comments, I was overwhelmed with capitu love. :DDD

On speaking to some other people, it transpires we ALL FELT THE SAME, and so it was decided that we needed an excuse to show you some appreciation and celebrate your wonderfulness.

So here it is! It's a party for you! Please indulge us, as it made us very happy to plan this for you. Some people have made you presents, and I'm hoping they will be along soon to leave them here in comments, and I think possibly some people might be posting on their own journals, too. (maybe they would leave a link here so we can all enjoy?) We kept it secret until now to make it more exciting, but if anyone at all feels like leaving capitu a message here, a gif or a drabble or sketch or anything at all, please please do so.

Someone Very Dedicated or Slightly Insane, part 1

Dear capitu, I don't know why, but whenever I try to write gift ficlets, the most arrant nonsense comes out of my head. This is no exception. But I hope it might make you smile.

Harry was up to his elbows in Doxys when Malfoy called to him.

“Potter? Come here!”

“I'm.... a bit busy,” Harry yelled, spraying Doxycide madly at another three that had emerged from the fusty old curtains in the Department of Magical Games and Sports. He hit two, but missed the other, and only his protective gloves saved him from a nasty nip.

“Potter! Come on. You've got to see this.”

Harry sighed. Since they had been set to work clearing out the disused rooms in the old Ministry of Magic, he had heard this phrase approximately five times a day. Malfoy was having a wonderful time wandering through the rooms and investigating all the exciting things such as infestations of magical creatures, terrifying books filled with Dark magic, and good old standbys such as woodworm and mildew.

The absolute worst day had been when they had cleared out Percy Weasley's old office and found a collection of... toys, and even worse, a variety of Percy-sized lingerie, that still had Harry shuddering whenever he thought of it. Malfoy, however, had looked at them thoughtfully, and his hand had hovered over one or two of the more outlandish items in an acquisitive manner, before Harry had Incendioed the whole lot. He couldn't think of much worse than anyone using a sex toy that had quite probably been up Percy's pureblood posterior. At least Harry now had a foolproof solution in case he was ever faced with the problem of premature ejaculation

Anyway, every time Malfoy had identified a new issue that needed their attention, he would shout for Harry, demanding that he stop whatever he was working on (usually Malfoy's previous discovery) and come and deal with it immediately. Malfoy would also usually expect a lot of praise for his cleverness in finding whatever-it-was.

Harry took off his goggles and mask and dumped them on the floor. He completely understood the need to render the old Ministry safe before it was turned into a home for war orphans, but he did wish it hadn't been allowed to fall into such dereliction after the move to the new premises. It was one of the worst jobs he and Malfoy had tackled together, and that was saying something.

He headed towards the direction of Malfoy's voice. “Where are you now?”

“This way,” came the echoey reply. “In the Department of Mysteries.”

Harry stomped down the stairs, ignoring the plaster falling from the walls as he did so. “We've been all through here already. We need to get proper shield gear before we can tackle the Bundimun outbreak.”

“No, look, while I was practising my Unforgivables on the Bundimuns, part of the wall fell down, and I've found another secret room!” The look of childish glee on Malfoy's face almost made up for the choking dust and the stench of damp.

Harry peered doubtfully at the ancient door, carved in unusual patterns, revealed at the back of the Hall of Prophecy. “You haven't already looked inside? There might be anything behind there; it could be risky.”

“Yes, that's why I want you to go first,” Malfoy smirked. “Because you're so good at Defence against the Dark Arts, I mean.”

Harry used his wand to shine some light on the surface of the door. There were runes, or... no, they were letters, written in what looked like gold leaf. They had been rubbed off in places and Harry struggled to make them out.

“R… E... O ... no, I think that's a C... Rec… something. Rec Room.. Means nothing to me. Any ideas?”

“Like Recreation?” Malfoy shrugged. “Come on, let's have a look.”

Harry cracked the door open a fraction and paused, wand at the ready. He listened carefully but heard nothing. Then he found himself propelled into the room by a firm shove in the small of his back. He stumbled on the rough stone floor before spinning around, on the alert for danger.

“You bastard, Malfoy, you pushed me!”

“The merest accident.” Malfoy remained firmly outside the door. “Besides, I couldn't wait any longer to find out what the room was. What's in there?”

Harry wasn't sure what he had been expecting, but not this. “Some sort of library. Come in, Malfoy, I think it's OK.”

Malfoy put his head round the door and looked around cautiously before stepping inside. “Merlin! All these books!”

Harry squinted at one of the spines. “Post Hogwarts Epilogue Compliant,” he read. “What the hell does that mean?”

Malfoy poked one of the volumes with a finger. “Who knows? There's Quidditch and Time Travel, over here.”

A scrap of paper lying on the floor caught Harry's eye and he bent to examine it. A pretty, dark-haired young woman, dressed all in white, smiled out from the photograph.

Malfoy snorted. “Fluff, Humour and Smut on this shelf. Wouldn't you love to know what's in Smut?”

“I don't think we should touch them.” Harry turned the piece of paper over with his wand. Capitu, Queen of Recs was written on the back in a rounded hand

“Too late.” Malfoy had his nose inside volume 1 of Smut. “This fic is just so hot!” he read in sceptical tones. “God. It works the Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics just right to make the UST drip all over the place.” He looked up, his forehead wrinkling. “It's in some sort of code.”

Harry came to look over his shoulder. “Weird. EWE. NC-17. And- what's that? AU. Does it make any sense to you?”

Malfoy shook his head, then stiffened. “Listen to this. It's 8th year and Harry and Draco are assigned to share a room, just the two of them. What the hell is 8th year? And why are our names in this book? This fic has some of the hottest and loveliest sex scenes I've read, and from then on, they just can't keep their hands off each other.”

He held the book away from himself, looking alarmed. “What is this?”

Harry reached over and turned a page. “If spanking isn't your kink, I encourage you to read it anyway.”

“What the fuck?” Malfoy turned more pages. “Look at this one! I could give you details, but all you need to know is that Draco is Polyjuiced as a girl, and Harry is fucking him for all he's worth,.”

Harry picked another book from the shelf, feeling uncomfortably hot under the collar all of a sudden. “This one's called 'Angst'. If you love stories about one of the boys pining for the other, this story is for you. It starts with Harry and Draco and this beautiful friendship... All of these are about us, Malfoy! In some messed-up kind of situations.”

Malfoy turned around slowly. “There are shelves full of them.” He pulled down a volume marked Bonding!Fics. “Each one carefully written, in the same person's hand.”

“It must have taken forever.” Harry shook his head in amazement. “Who would do something like this?”

“Either someone very dedicated or slightly insane.” Malfoy picked up one book after another.

Harry ran his finger along the shelf. In contrast to the rest of the Hall of Prophecy, this room was clean and dust free. His eyes darted to the floor, on which were the tracks of many pairs of feet. The room had all the signs of being regularly well-used, by many different people, and recently, too.

Malfoy gave an outraged yelp. He read aloud from a book titled Mpreg: Draco. “Written from Draco's POV, you're going to feel you're going through everything along with him, from the moment he realises he is pregnant, not knowing who the father of his child is as he slept with more than one man. This is outrageous, Potter! Which fucker wrote these things about me?”

Harry's mind raced; the hairs on the back of his neck were standing up. “I don't get it. I think we should get out of here and talk to Kingsley right away. Someone has to know what this place is.”

Oh my God. I am, wow, overwhelmed by this.

I came into this fandom, this brilliant ship knowing no one and now I am surrounded by beautiful people, amazing friends, thinking this is the best place to be, how lucky I am, to have found people who love to love this universe, and to feel part of something, to belong somewhere.

Every day is like an adventure; when fests are in full swing, being gifted by what people wrote and drew and share with the fandom and when it's quieter, discovering older entries and falling in love a little bit more with characters.

It's simply amazing. You all are amazing.

And it's you, all of you that make fandom so special. You can love a book quietly on your own, but nothing compares to this feeling of being part of something, of belonging, and it's what you've given me, what I feel.

Gosh, I'm embarrassing myself now, but from the bottom of my fannish little heart, I can't thank you enough for this, I can't tell you how honoured and thankful and loved you've made me feel today. Thank you, all of you. ♥

Some days, when I think that fandom is a conspiracy to give me wrinkles and make me mainline chocolate, I go back to a fest and read comments. Sometimes they're comments to one of my stories, more often to those of other people. At the end of this, I always feel better, because I see the generosity, love, support and enthusiasm that people bring to this fandom, which was what hooked me originally. The name at the start of most of those reviving comments is yours. You are the honey in our tea, the lime mortar in our wall and you are every bit as sweet and trustworthy as your metaphors.

You know how there are stories, authors that mark you, yeah? You're right at the top of that list. You probably don't know, and I am aware it sounds kind of silly and dramatic, but your stories had a huge impact in me, in what I like to read. To this day, I think of Draco down on his luck as my favourite Draco to read, and Mpreg as one of my favourite genres, and memory loss as my other favourite plot twist, and that women ample bosom will always make Harry just a bit uncomfortable. :)

I guess I'm trying to say thank you, and that you think of me in that way makes me feel pretty amazing.<3
