  • I had a moment of madness and signed up for this:

The H/D Last Drabble Writer Standing contest at [livejournal.com profile] slythindor100. This runs for eight weeks, starting July 10th. Anyone want to join me? It's really fun and pretty exciting. Each week you get a word count and a prompt, and you have a few days to produce something. There are some fabulous people signed up and it's always brilliant to see the different styles and genre. I've signed up because I want the commitment of having to write something short every week and work on my brevity in general, so I hope I don't get booted out too fast.

  • JKR reveals that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open next year in London's West End. You can register here to get ticket information in the Autumn. I am really confused as to what this is about. JKR is being mysterious - and insists it is NOT a prequel, as previously reported. But I have heard that it is a story about James and Lily? So, who knows. Will you be trying to get tickets?

  • Quick rec: An Aching Soul at [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest, (H/D, NC-17, 15k, currently anon). Club!fic is my guilty pleasure, and this one is hot and visceral and the writing is lovely. It's 15k and whooshes along.

  • I must finish my [livejournal.com profile] hd_collab. I MUST FINISH MY [livejournal.com profile] hd_collab. WHY AM I EVEN HERE? WHY DID I STAY UP LAST NIGHT PLAYING STARFIGHTER:ECLIPSE? (I totally got the Cain/Selene/Helios threesom, though, heh). I am now going to go and finish my [livejournal.com profile] hd_collab. Just as soon as I've showered, tidied my sock drawer, made a light snack, checked my flist and anything else I can think of to stave off the moment. *attempt at charming smile in mods' direction*

Uh, I beta'd the thing. Seemed done to me! If you're just editing, you should say, 'Must finish editing my Collab!' It will make you feel better and also have the benefit of being true. ;-) :-) *cheers*!

Omg, LDWS. But don't you get voted off like a reality TV bachelor or something? I'm afraid my HUGE little ego just couldn't handle that. LOL. Like, "They hate me! They really hate me!" and such. ;-P That said, I'd like to work on my own brevity and with different styles for that, so... I'll go look at it at least. *makes sour face at you* Damned friends.

I love club!fic! Will have to check that out, thanks! :-D

Ohhh, I thought you would've signed up already since your drabbles are always amazing! Really, you were actually the first name that came to mind when I read about LDWS, and was thinking about who would sign up. Would you? Please? I think you will do a fabulous job!

And yes, being able to write short, compact fic is such an important skill in life, I think this is an outstanding chance to practise with that some more... :D

Are you serious?? I've always felt like my drabbles (sometimes at least) lack that kick-in-the-pants factor. Like a good haiku just slays you with the last line that brings everything perfectly together in that unexpected way that ends up being so perfect? I want my drabbles to do that, and when they don't, I get all judgy. But maybe I'm being too hard on myself. O_o

Gosh. Uh. Okay? Thank you! I'll give it a try! <3

Oh man, hell no I won't. LOLOL! No fucking way. Omg, it's so competition-oriented, and I do NOT do that. No way. Omg no. I'm sorry! It's just so not for me! <3

I can totally imagine that, the competition element is something that makes me scared, too (also I don't really write, minor detail...)! I can imagine you rather don't, but I was super serious about your drabbles, I really love them! So don't be shy about that :) <3

There's nothing wrong with competition, and some people really thrive on it (and I can and do with some other things, just not this). I'm so uncompetition-y about writing that I actually got tears in my eyes reading the rules! And not just thinking about being 'voted off' but over being a reader and *having* to vote someone off. That just killed me to imagine. So obviously I just can't. But I hope it's super fun for everybody else! <3

But, you know, I do love writing drabbles. I haven't looked at harry100 for a really long time, so if nothing else, I'll definitely go look at their prompts again and write some for fun soon. Maybe today. :-)

Thank you for the vote of confidence! You're very sweet!

Also, GO BIRDS!!! *\o/* I may not be participating in the contest, even to read, but I can't wait to read what you write for it after the fact! :-D

Well, I don't think drabbles have to punch you in the gut necessarily. But I think what's hard about them is that they have to have the same impact as a regular-length story with very little set-up or resolution time. And I find that hard a lot of the time. But it's rewarding, too! :-)

But oh god, yeah, especially someplace like hp_halloween, there's always one or two drabbles that manage the punch to the gut. I remember a Filch gen piece once that actually made me sit here and weep at the end. 200 words and I was weeping! Now that is really something. <3
