I had an idea.
I used to write more rec posts, but sometimes it seems like it will take up too much time, and so I'll just fire off a link to a friend instead. However, I LOVE reading other people's recs. There are lovely people who rec regularly, and other lovely people who rec occasionally, when they feel like it, but I always wish there were more recs, particularly for current fests and fic / art that's being posted now. If there's a fest on and I've got a bit behind, it can seem so intimidating and I don't know where to begin, so a few recs can help me immensely. Even if I've already read the fic, I enjoy seeing what other people thought of it. And not forgetting the fact it is an enormous pleasure when something you've written gets recced (for some reason this is especially satisfying while it's still anon).
Anyway, I thought I would like to make a commitment to write MORE RECS during the next month. I want to make a rec post at least once a week - I'm hoping that with
hd_fan_fair beginning, and lots of other fests continuing, this will be a piece of cake :D
I wondered whether anyone would like to join me? It would be so nice to see a kind of mini-explosion of recs during October. I even thought of a name. RECTOBER. Oh yes. It sounds a bit rectal, doesn't it? SO MUCH THE BETTER.
I can't do banners and clever things, but if anyone wanted to make a RECTOBER banner I would love you a lot.
Meanwhile here is a poll:

If nobody likes the idea of Rectober, I have another idea: Nictober. I'll leave it in your hands :DDD

Date: 2013-09-26 10:54 am (UTC)I am not a good reccer, but I will try to make at least a weekly rec post. Perhaps I'll become a good habit and I'll continue it.

Date: 2013-09-26 11:08 am (UTC)I haven't posted a lot of recs in these last months. I sometimes really commit to a fest and read and comment and rec, but I always feel this takes a lot of energy and often I feel a bit burned out afterwards. I'm SO looking forward to
It helps that I have lost a bit interest in Teen Wolf too, and I'm craving new H/D fic.

Date: 2013-09-26 12:01 pm (UTC)I'm so happy you like the idea! I just love the thought of waking up to lovely recs every day. Fests can be hard to navigate otherwise, but a rec gives you a foot in the door.

Date: 2013-09-26 12:11 pm (UTC)...but I suppose a Rectober (am never going to be able to read that without thinking of rectums) is the second best thing. I don't make recs often and I've been doing a lot of grumbling to myself about the lack of feedback in my main fandom, so maybe this could be an opportunity for me to get off my arse and actually *do* something about it...

I love that you like Rectumber, I mean Rectober. I thought it could be multi-fandom if people want to spread the word about (we NEED a banner...)
I was thinking the same, "Why do not many people rec any more? Hmm? Ah, OK, why do *I* not rec any more." Sometimes we have to get off our arses.

Date: 2013-09-26 12:37 pm (UTC)I remain unconvinced that anyone actually goes and reads the fics I occasionally rec, heh. Which I guess is why I don't rec all that often. But I do like it when recs from you pop up in my inbox, so maybe I should make more of an effort.

Date: 2013-09-26 01:12 pm (UTC)HEY, PEOPLE! I LOVE YOUR RECS, OK! THANK YOU!
You have to admit this month has been extremely Nictacular. Who's to say next month won't be, as well?

Date: 2013-09-26 01:29 pm (UTC)...and I might join in with Rectober as well :DD Can the focus of the recs be bottoms? I hope lots of people write bottom-focused fics to fit the theme.

Date: 2013-09-26 01:26 pm (UTC)I also like the reccing communities - maybe one of those could be a place to post all of the recs for Rectober?

Date: 2013-09-26 05:25 pm (UTC)I personally think it would be great to see recs appearing everywhere on people's LJs, as well as on the reccing communities. I see people cross posting to crack broom or hd_storyroom sometimes, as well as on their personal journals, so that's always an option?
no subject
Date: 2013-09-26 05:58 pm (UTC)Or maybe if someone wanted to take on a once-a-week post on a rec journal linking to all of the individual recs.
Probably making this too complicated! You should do it however makes you happy, and I'm sure we'll all have fun.

Date: 2013-09-26 02:17 pm (UTC)well, i have reclists that i update a couple of times a year, and then i have my ao3 bookmarks that i update at least monthly, and then i have actual recposts that happen only when the fancy takes me. XD so that's the explanation for that.
i like the idea of rectober though, and i'm totally in. let's see if i get around to reading anything to rec...

I thought this was a really funny option, but then nobody clicked it and I was left all on my own looking a complete nobber XD
