RECTOBER

I had an idea.

I used to write more rec posts, but sometimes it seems like it will take up too much time, and so I'll just fire off a link to a friend instead. However, I LOVE reading other people's recs. There are lovely people who rec regularly, and other lovely people who rec occasionally, when they feel like it, but I always wish there were more recs, particularly for current fests and fic / art that's being posted now. If there's a fest on and I've got a bit behind, it can seem so intimidating and I don't know where to begin, so a few recs can help me immensely. Even if I've already read the fic, I enjoy seeing what other people thought of it. And not forgetting the fact it is an enormous pleasure when something you've written gets recced (for some reason this is especially satisfying while it's still anon).

Anyway, I thought I would like to make a commitment to write MORE RECS during the next month. I want to make a rec post at least once a week - I'm hoping that with hd_fan_fair beginning, and lots of other fests continuing, this will be a piece of cake :D

I wondered whether anyone would like to join me? It would be so nice to see a kind of mini-explosion of recs during October. I even thought of a name. RECTOBER. Oh yes. It sounds a bit rectal, doesn't it? SO MUCH THE BETTER.

I can't do banners and clever things, but if anyone wanted to make a RECTOBER banner I would love you a lot.

Rectober is a great idea (and please for the love of *insert deities of choice* forget that other idea!).
I am not a good reccer, but I will try to make at least a weekly rec post. Perhaps I'll become a good habit and I'll continue it.

I LOVE the idea and I want to participate!

I haven't posted a lot of recs in these last months. I sometimes really commit to a fest and read and comment and rec, but I always feel this takes a lot of energy and often I feel a bit burned out afterwards. I'm SO looking forward to hd_fan_fair though!

It helps that I have lost a bit interest in Teen Wolf too, and I'm craving new H/D fic.

I usually only recc during fests I'm keping up with (I figure at last one will b posting in Rectober (haha, my brain is so tempted to read it as Rectumber). I figure at least on comm will be posting fic. Otherwise I'll hopefully find something.

Nictober is a beautiful idea and is sorely needed - did you know that there's no Nic fic on AO3? Ruined my morning discovering that, I tell you.

...but I suppose a Rectober (am never going to be able to read that without thinking of rectums) is the second best thing. I don't make recs often and I've been doing a lot of grumbling to myself about the lack of feedback in my main fandom, so maybe this could be an opportunity for me to get off my arse and actually *do* something about it...

I always feel useless at reccing because I always mean to do it and then never quite manage it. So Rectober sounds like a great idea to me!! Anything is better than Nictober ;p

I really love recs, too, and you have some great ideas here. I have noticed that very few people comment on rec posts, and sometimes I go back to let the reccer know I loved the fic/art they recced. It seems to me that is the missing step and would encourage the reccers more.

I also like the reccing communities - maybe one of those could be a place to post all of the recs for Rectober?

i think i screwed up your little poll there by voting 'monthly', 'couple of times a year' and 'whenever the fancy takes me' on the middle one.

well, i have reclists that i update a couple of times a year, and then i have my ao3 bookmarks that i update at least monthly, and then i have actual recposts that happen only when the fancy takes me. XD so that's the explanation for that.

i like the idea of rectober though, and i'm totally in. let's see if i get around to reading anything to rec...

\o/ Yes! I've been trying to rec on a regular basis too, but real life has slowed me down to a couple of times a week on my tumblr blog. So for October, I'll try to rec daily on tumblr and then weekly crosspost to lj!

I don't know if anyone has said this yet or not, but hp_diversity is collecting recs now to post in october like hp_darkarts did in august. (At least, I THINK they're still collecting). :P

I am so bad about reccing! I have zillions of things saved to recc... but I never seem to get around to it!

I love the idea of rectober! Maybe it would make me get off my arse and rec all the fabulous things!
