Stuff and nonsense
Aug. 10th, 2013 07:51 pmJust my usual kind of post blethering about fannish things and pointing at things I found amusing. :D
I finished reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with my eldest, who is 10. We had such fun with it; it was my absolute all time favourite book when I was his age (there was no Harry Potter then, sob) and he loved the humour and the surreal situations, especially the names! We have had some really childish giggling sessions over "Vroomfondel", "Majikthise" and "Slartibartfast." They are great books to read aloud for this reason, and I especially enjoyed doing Arthur Dent's voice. He's such a fabulous character, although when I was a child I preferred Ford Prefect, and indeed had a massive crush on him, or perhaps it was the actor who played him in the original tv series, David Dixon. There's something just impossibly cute about him.
Anyway, I bet you can guess what's coming next. I now want to read Hitchhiker's fic, because, OMG, Ford/Arthur = slash heaven. I actually daren't look in case a) there is none or b) it is crap, but just on the really tiny offchance any of my flist know some sweet slashy Hitchhikers fic (or want to write me some :D), I am here just AGOG waiting. There would be a reward.

LOOK AT THEM! THEY ARE BEGGING, SLASH ME, SLASH ME.
Another funny thing about reading the books again was that I had to explain to J that when the trilogy was written, the idea of an electronic book that you could press buttons on and get information about virtually anything, was WILDLY RADICAL. I mean just TOTAL SPACE AGE WOW NO WAY kind of stuff. I could see J listening to the bits about how clever the Guide was, and thinking "this sounds really shit, I mean, why would you want that when you have the internet." :D
Well, tomorrow is
hd_erised assignment day. *biting fist* I am equally excited and nervous about receiving mine, as I have never written for an exchange fest before and I have no idea how I am going to find it. I lost a bit of confidence about writing lately, as after fighting tooth and nail to get the brilliant
hd_fan_fair prompt that I wanted (the mods will verify I totally embarrassed myself emailing them about 6 times to make sure I had actually got it O.o), I then found I could not write the blinking thing for love nor money. For a while I was thinking I would have to drop out, then FINALLY it started coming together. I've got about 13 or 14k of it now and I think the end is finally in sight. \o/ I must admit I'll be relieved when this one is submitted. And I really really hope the prompter likes it :S
Finally if you made it through all that, (or if you just want to skip straight to the funny part):
two really corking animations. The first one is for everyone who's seen Loki at Comic-Con and also anyone who's tried to hide their fandom activities from their partner. :D I especially love the lip bite.
and the second is for anyone in any fandom ever (although particularly for my lovely friends in the HP fandom). The last line kills me.

Date: 2013-08-12 01:16 pm (UTC)I think I got the videos via the Mary Sue: http://www.themarysue.com/
Such an enteraining website. They linked to another (in my opinion, not so funny) video by the same animator so I had a look about to see what else she had done.
I wrote about 6 k of fanfair this week, I think. For me, that is amazing!
