I know you all knew this a gazillion years ago, but this is the first I heard of it. They filmed a scene in DH2 where Draco breaks ranks from the crowd of Death Eaters and ran past Voldemort to throw Harry his wand...

And David Yates talks about it here:

"There was also a moment where Tom … we had this scene. In this scene where Tom throws Harry a wand, which is a big deal – a hugely different ending. It’s not a different ending, it’s a different moment. And we thought, “Oh my god, is that too much of a turnaround for Malfoy?” So Malfoy suddenly becomes a good guy – so that’s what Steve [Kloves, screenwriter] wrote.

Actually it felt really uplifting and you went, “Oh cool.” But when we put it all together, I think [producers] David Heyman – and David Barron in particular – were concerned about it because they didn’t feel it was most effective for the character, where Steve and I were quite keen because we thought, “That’s a really uplifting moment.” But we cut it out eventually..."

I am gutted. I actually, really feel quite strange and upset about this. I am sure I will get a grip in a bit. But meanwhile *sob* *sniffle* *throws self on flist's bosom for comforting*

p.s. I also laughed quite a bit at all the "Voldemort has a NOSE?" comments on the video :D

E.T.A. I just made poor Mr Birds sit down and watch this. I said "look look LOOK OMG!" He watched it carefully and said "Whoa, Voldemort has a NOSE!!!"

O.o

Oh, I never knew that existed! I was always quite sad that the Malfoys just walk away - in my head they're there until the bitter end, even if not taking part. It is perhaps a bit much of a change for Draco to behave as per this video - not because he wouldn't want to, but because it would take extraordinary courage. I can't remember what happens in the book, though. I do love the scene in Malfor Manor in DH1 - him not identifying Harry is a key moment for both of them, and in my head I always call it "Draco's Redemption". And he doesn't try very hard to capture Harry in the Room of Requirement either, so at least there were some scenes which give hints of Draco's better side.

*hugs*

I would have been awesome, but also a complete divergence from the books. And we can write that moment for Draco ourselves in any way we want. ♥

I can definitely see the fanon appeal though as a book purist those sorts of changes bother me. It was already a lot clearer Draco wasn't a bad guy in the film than in the book, I think. Though why they kept Voldemort hugging Draco I'll never understand. LOL

I wrote fic that included this scene! I wish they'd kept it, it would have made my draco essay even better.

When this video first hit the internet I was running in circles trying to decide how I felt. Part of me was glad that it was cut because it was SUCH a leap from canon, but another part of me was like "Well, it would be nice if they diverged from canon in a good way for once!"

I mean, Kloves basically turned the series into a Harmony fic, so why shouldn't we get our moment at the end. So yes. I am very sad about this scene being cut now.

Oh, wow. I hadn't seen that before. I think I'm glad it didn't go in the films, but glad it exists, iyswim?

*Adds that 'Potter' to head canon*

I would have loved to have seen that in the movie.

While I understand why they'd want to cut the scene out, I still WANT it so bad to have Draco do something major in the War. I mean, I always wish for some kind of a redemption for my favorite characters, and I think Draco really deserves it - he was just a kid forced to believe what was shoved inside his head, so I think it'd be nice if he gets a, hmm, nice scene once in a while. :\

*pets*

After repeating the video for a hundred times, I'm having funny feelings toward Lucius who moved after Draco ran - does that mean that Lucius actually care about Draco? *creates headcanon* :'D

:D

As much as we H/D fangirls would have loved to see that in the film, it really wasn't in keeping with canon. I think it's brilliant that they actually filmed that version, even though they eventually cut it.

I didn't know about this!!! Thank you for bringing it to our attention!
This makes me respect Steve Kloves and David Yates a whole lot more for writing and filming it respectively and also for wanting to keep this part in. *glares at cautious producers*
I agree that they had already deviated so much from the books that this wouldn't have been so bad. Though part of me is wondering where it would fit in exactly and whether if it had been left in, even though it is a hugely awesome Draco redemption moment, would I have been disappointed that it wasn't as subtle as it was in the books...
Dammit, now I'm torn. But I do know that I don't like how the Malfoy's just walked away. They should have been there in the Great Hall at the end, as per the book. *sigh*... *loves Draco*

I'd seen that on youtube but didn't know where it came from - I thought maybe Tom just did it on a lark! I agree that it would've been a bit too different from the book - but I do think the movie cheated Draco of a scene that showed his best side. In the book, when Crabbe starts the Fiendfyre, Goyle is Stupefied from Hermione's spell and while Harry and the others are grabbing brooms, Draco is dragging Goyle - and he doesn't let go of him even to get on Harry's broom until Ron and Hermione come to get Goyle. He risked his life for his friend. They left that out of the movie.

oh i remembered i was pretty much crushed and quite devastated and sniffled a lot when i saw that bit on youtube bcos i'm always tooooo much obsessed with the delusion of these sides of [some of]Dark and Light would fight side by side in the end, or at least the some of the Dark side would be a bit redeemed [or i might just since A:TLA and i was always Zuko fangirl, if you know wht im talking about xp]

but i think for the movie canon it'd just be too much. i think. and i'm quite satisfied with Draco do not want to identify Harry in the Manor. yeah, well, that's what fangirls and fanfiction have the role in this part, and i think David Yates fanboying over these H/D dynamics in the movie is very charming =DDDDDD ♥

I hadn't seen this clip before. I don't know. On one hand in a fannish Draco lover sort of way it would have been nice. But on the other hand the book purist in me wouldn't have appreciated it, just like I didn't appreciate the hug.

But I do love Mr Birds awesome reactions!
