It would have been amazing to see Harry and Draco fighting side by side in the end! Also, it would give a positive message to kids, I think, that you can mess up, but be forgiven. There are so many lovely messages in the HP books, but JKR is fairly fierce and unforgiving about wrong-doing, most of the time.
I suppose to insert this scene would be too much deviation, as you say... but for fangirls and boys it will always be tempting to add our own little fantasies :D
