Pottermore Fair claiming starts tomorrow \o/

hd_fan_fair has such a special place in my heart. It's the first fest I prompted for when I joined fandom - I remember every single one of the pieces that posted for my prompts! ♥ I also wrote my first ever story for it.

Please go and have a look at the 125 brilliant prompts. People have been so imaginative and used this year's Pottermore theme to come up with ideas that are exciting, romantic, funny, hot, thrilling, and intriguing. CLAIMING OPENS TOMORROW AT 9 AM EASTERN TIME / 2 PM BST.

Who's staking out the prompts list? Who's tempted? Who's trying reeeeeally hard not to, because they know they shouldn't, but is going to end up frantically scrabbling at the claiming post tomorrow like a crazed beast? :DD

There's a prompt that has hooked me in. <3 There always is at fan fair, LOL.

I thought the Pottermore theme might be confusing or tricky but it's inspired such creative ideas. I came up with a couple of prompts I am DYING to see fic or art for. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll be lucky and someone will claim them.

Shag a SON? Potters and Malfoys? Omg. *faints* I have never seen that fest, but it's a dream come true for me. Looks like I came to fandom 6 years too late *gnashes teeth*

I'm totally stalking the prompts list, but only to watch and see what gets claimed :) (and not just my prompts - there are a ton of awesome prompts that I hope get claimed that I had nothing to do with!)

I admit that when I first heard this year's theme I was a mite skeptical because I hadn't been on Pottermore and didn't really 'get' it, but the mods put together such an awesome reference post and made it seem cool and then all these amazing prompts rolled in and now I'm *completely* excited about it!

Yay! Use your Veela powers to entrap all the lovely authors and authors :)

I thought maybe it would be a bit complicated to prompt this year, and people might get put off, but I think it's really worked. There are maybe fewer prompts than some years, but the ones that are there are great.

You're not tempted to claim anything? *Veela powers* The powers are not mine, btw... I am fairly far from being a Veela, LOL. I just have one tied up over here.

I'm in no way ready to write for a major fest. I might one day do another comment-style fest, but it would depend on the theme and the prompts.

I was thinking about it the other day though, and it occurred to me that the one fest I might feel able to handle would be remix. That's because it's kinda expected to do short fics that are maybe just one scene, retold from a different perspective or something. That's something that maybe I could do. But you have to have published, what, three fics to sign up for remix? Hmmmm...

You think *I* was ready to write for a major fest when I signed up for fan fair? I had never written a single thing beforehand, LOL! I don't even know what got into me. Anyway, I wanted to say, apart from length, that piece you wrote for the comment fest was totally polished enough to be fest-quality. So you don't need to shy away because of that.

It's interesting what you say about remix... the last thing I want to do is put someone OFF writing for a fest that they fancy, but personally, I found remixing someone else's fic far harder than anything else I've attempted in fandom. It's such an intimate undertaking - a fearful mixture of writing FOR someone and writing ABOUT someone's own personal creation. Like if JKR was going to read my fanfic. O_o

My advice would be, go for a straight up prompt fest. It's not a gift and you don't even have to stick to the prompt if you get sidetracked in another direction. But that's just my own preference!

How is this even possible? How can it be that you didn't write anything before 2012 fan_fair? I DON'T BELIEVE YOU. Talent like yours doesn't come out of thin air. You are straight up LYING to my FACE.

(Um...you know I'm just kidding, right? I love you! But you are LYING. ♥)

But what you say about remix is very interesting. I can definitely see being nervous about remixing someone else's work (like, jesus, what if I had to remix yours?) but at the same time, it will be the case that these authors would have given permission by virtue of being in the fest. So they can't be *too* mad at you, right?

And I was just thinking that plotting is hard for me! So if someone else came up with the plot, that would be so much better! I could just fill in a missing scene, or (even easier) retell a scene from a different character's point of view. I'm all about just writing a single scene, you see :)

But I thought I should tell you that you *have* inspired me, and I have gone and signed up for fan_fair. Ha! But it's not what you think...

The art is truly sumptuous, that's true. But I guess I prefer my fanfiction to be written by fans rather than the original author :)

I'm sorely tempted - there are some very fine prompts. I'm not entirely sure that my drawing/upload quality is fest standard (after reading the info) so I'll do some bothering and see what requirements are.

In the meantime, I'll just drool on the prompts.
