So, what do we think about Eddie Redmayne apparently being confirmed in the role of Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts film?



If you're not sure who he is, he's a British actor who recently won a lot of awards for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Personally, I think I'm fairly happy about it.

As soon as I saw him in My Week With Marilyn I wanted to do him so if we're going off my instant sexual attraction then yes good casting.

If we're going off him being able to act then again good casting. They really do get a lot of good talent for JKR's movies don't they? Now the script, that's where it can go pear shaped. She's writing it though, yeah? It's not a hired screen writer.

We shall see about that. Same director and production team, though. A script is just a script, not the full movie.

Damn. It was things that really ate at me about the Potter movies was putting someone else's words in another person's mouth or having characters say or express things they never would in the books. I do like the prop team for the Potter movies, that is a behind the scenes bit I always enjoyed. Now I am back to being less hopeful.

The Fantastic Beasts movies are not going to be book adaptations, which I am grateful for. I enjoyed the HP movies but they don't come close to the books. Imho, especially the later ones are run-of-the-mill adaptations that either stayed way too close to the books, or made odd, unnecessary divergences for no good reasons. And I really hated some of the special effects. Awesome props, yes. :)

I've got such mixed feelings about the films. I have massive affection for them, and I think they got so many things wonderfully right, but when they miss the mark, they really miss the mark with style :/

JKR's writing it, and the reports say that Eddie Redmayne was asked a little while ago but wanted time to read the script first. If he does indeed say yes (I'm still dubious about it being 'confirmed') then that seems like a good sign.

Instant sexual attraction is a powerful thing at the box office!
