First of all, you have to read the latest
hd_holidays fic, Coffee, Cakes, and Doorknob Snakes.
Summary: Harry's house is trying to kill him, and only one person can help him: pity it's Draco Malfoy. This fabulous tale will make you beam. The characters are wonderful; there is plot, original magic, UST in spades, and the most delicious, snarky, pointy, rude, swishy-robed, glorious Draco Malfoy I have read for quite a while. Plus, a divinely cheeky Harry, and a great cast of supporting characters too.
What are you waiting for? Coffee, Cakes and Doorknob Snakes is this way.
After you've read that, come back; I have one more fic I want to share. I did my Christmas food shop today, and it was fairly manic and could have been stressful. When I got into town, it seemed quiet, but quickly started to fill up with people, and the mood in the Marks and Spencers food hall seemed like it could turn vicious at any moment. I texted Mr Birds to say I was feeling quite nervous about going in, and he texted back:
"Get a move on. People with lists and pointy elbows will be about soon. They've been at home writing lists and sharpening their elbows up til now."
Arf. Thinking about that, and the following fic, kept me smiling even as people rammed me with their trollies.
'Tis the Season to be Jolly'.
This is a short and cute fic about Harry and Draco battling and snarking their way round the Marks and Spencer food hall on Christmas Eve.
Excerpt:
“Remind me again why we’re doing this?” Draco asks, his irritable tone softened by a sudden yawn at the end of the question. He’s still wearing his pyjama top under his jacket, and for once his perfect hair is in disarray.
“Because Hermione’s too pregnant to deal with this,” Harry reminds him. “And since it’s her and Ron’s turn to cook this year, I thought it would be a nice gesture for us to shop for her.”
“And why exactly isn’t Weasley here? She’s the one who’s knocked up, not him.”
“You know perfectly well why. Last time she sent him to do the food shopping, he came back with eighty kilos of potatoes and no idea how it happened.”
Enjoy, and good luck if you still have any shopping to do tomorrow. The cream aisle is a place of terror, but thinking about fanfic can help you make it through.
