Rectober aims to celebrate reccing, reading, enjoying, commenting, sharing and discussion about fic, art and other fanworks during the month of October.

Why not take part in Rectober by pledging to make a certain number of rec posts during October? We also hope you'll encourage other reccers by commenting on their posts. ♥

All fandoms, pairings, genres and ratings are welcome! Bring on the recs!

How to rec:

This is totally up to you - you can rec however you like. But if you're not sure how to get started, here is a reccing template, with the usual type of info. These are suggestions only. Some people like to write a lot, and include excerpts, but a simple link to the fic with a sentence or two about why you enjoyed it can be just as useful.

You can rec on your own journal, or at reccing communities, or cross post to both. hd_storyroom is a reccing comm devoted to Harry/Draco, and they are happy to receive recs from any poster. If you know of others for your fandom / pairing feel free to promote in the comments.

You can rec fic, art, podfics, fanvids, meta posts, or any other fanworks.

If you post to your own journal, if possible please leave the post unflocked so that it's available to everyone. We'll have an ongoing list of contributors, so If you use a Rectober tag when you're reccing, it makes it easy for people browse those journals and track down rec posts.

If you don't want to write recs yourself:

You can still take part in Rectober by reading and commenting. It's great to let a reccer know if you enjoyed reading a fic they recced, or even if you haven't read the fic yet but just like the sound of it from their post.

Also, if you enjoy a fic that's been recced to you, you can let the writer know in a comment that you came to it via a rec. Often people feel like nobody reads their recs! I have heard this many times, and it sometimes puts people off writing rec posts.

MY GOAL: I'm going to try to make a weekly rec post, and I'm intending that this will contain at least 3 recs each time.

I usually fail in all sorts of ways at reccing anything, but I'm willing to throw my hat into the ring.

Goals: to rec at least one thing before the 31 days are up. And to read at least 10% of all things recced.

MY GOAL: I am hoping to make 2 posts a week, one for each of my OTPs (I actually have way more than that, but I would literally be here all day otherwise lol). I'm also going to try and rec both a fic and some art/a fanvid for each one, and make a bit of a thing about it, because I like procrastinating by making things pretty instead of doing actual work, LOL!

I'm not sure about a numbers goal, but I think I'm going to read/rec all things that I wouldn't necessarily read normally. Rarepairs, gen, gasp!Harry/Ginny, etc. Things like that.

My goal is to rec art from hd_fan_fair's Career Fair, and then CF fics, and then a couple of stories I have been meaning to read and yeah, pretty much do a lot of reccing this month. :D

Hmm, I'm going to try to post five recs during the month - hopefully more if I can! There are some wonderful fests posting and I have lots of reading to catch up on so this really is perfectly timed.

My goal is at least 4 rec posts in October, with at least 2 recs/post. Going to try to keep up with Career Fair and take Rectober as an incentive to plow through my massive reading list.

My goal is to do AT LEAST one rec post per week (hopefully two or even three) with AT LEAST one story or piece of art per post (hopefully more like two or three). So anywhere between one work per week and nine. Ten is right out! ;-) :-)
