When is the fest running?
We're here all week, from Feb 7th to Feb 14th. Please drop in regularly to leave love and see what else has been left.

How do I leave love for a character?
It's entirely up to you, but here are some examples, for your inspiration. So, for instance, if you're feeling a lot of love for Ron this week, go to his thread HERE and leave your contribution as a comment.

You could post explaining that you've always liked a man with a freckly arse. You could draw a sketch of Ron doing his bad-ass Auror thing. You could write a drabble featuring Ron just being Ron, a kinky PWP, or a 100k Gen rated kid!fic. You could cosplay as Ron and post a photo. Sculpt your interpretation of Ron's face in mashed potato. Or eat a bacon sandwich in his honour and then compose a haiku about how delicious it was. What about some Ron-centric recs? Ron icons, favourite quotes connected to Ron, a Ron fanmix, Ron's name written in fairy lights – if you can think of it, then DO IT.

Leave a description of your contribution in the subject line. Eg, RON: FANMIX, RON: HAIKU, or RON: DRABBLE or just RON: LOVE if it's just general love.

Commenting on other people's contributions, and general chit-chat, is firmly encouraged. Will this mean the threads get a little crazy? WHO KNOWS. :D

What is and isn't allowed?
You can write any pairing, or gen, any length, any genre, any rating. Please use warnings appropriately. Content does not have to be fluffy by any means, but character bashing would not be appropriate at this fest. If you have any doubts, just ask me or capitu.

I've written a 20k fic for the fest, is that OK?
:DDD OF COURSE. If there's anything that you want to host on your own journal, just leave the link in the comment thread.

I can't find a thread for Aunt Marge / Griphook / Trevor! Are only certain characters eligible for love?
Please check the masterlist first, HERE. I'll try to keep the masterlist updated as much as possible, but I do have to sleep and stuff, so please skim through the latest comment threads as well, to see if someone else has begun one for your character. If Aunt Marge or whoever has been cruelly neglected so far, please start your own thread, putting their name in the subject line.

As to who's eligible: EVERYONE. If they feature in the Harry Potter series, they qualify for the fest.

My fanwork deals with more than one character, where shall I put it?
GOOD QUESTION. Did you feel inspired with love for one of the characters more than the others, perhaps? If not... if it's a pairing fic, say Neville / Luna, you could post it on Neville's thread, and leave a link to it on Luna's thread. If it's, say a drawing of the Lestranges, start a thread titled “The Lestrange family” and put it on there. If you still don't know where to put it, just ask me or capitu, or just do something different entirely, if you like; we won't shout at you.

Am I only meant to leave love for my favourite character?
No! Leave love for as many people as you like! You have the whole week to shower as many HP characters as you wish with love. You could even challenge yourself and try to appreciate a character you haven't really given much thought to before.

Thank you for that riveting look at our departmental priorities. I really have to do something about the corruption on staff. What's there to say about Kingsley?

Let me quote from the HP Lexicon:
Kingsley's towering size, intellect, power, and calm confidence is frequently reassuring to the others around him. He can be intimidating too: even Dolores Umbridge backed down when he reproached her (OP27). He has a similar effect on Muggles, partly due to his unusual ability to dress like them (DH3). When Scrimgeour became Minister and Shacklebolt was reassigned to undercover security for the Muggle Prime Minister, he quickly became invaluable to the staff at 10 Downing Street (HBP1). Kingsley impressed Vernon Dursley so much that he wanted him to be his escort when the Dursley's evacuated the house on Privet Drive (DH3).

When a clueless Muggle like Vernon Dudley recognizes a wizard's greatness, you know he has to be something. 'Nuff said.

Pretty sure I actually cried when Kreacher was telling the story of Regulus and the locket. I always loved how Kreacher's gave Harry his loyalty in the end.

Dear Molly,

Well, you've got your hands full don't you? With a number of children that probably had you pulling your hair out. You are fierce and, though a little hot tempered (who wouldn't be with so many sons?), you are loving and there doesn't seem to be an end to that love. You welcomed Harry into you home and your family and you were a mother to him. You would do anything for your family, even Arthur and his Muggle obsessed self, and no one can stand in your way when you you've put your mind to something. Your family would find themselves at a loss without you and for all your love and hard work I think you need a day off, have some Molly time.

What would you do you ask? Go to a spa! How would you do that? Well I've taken care of that, here you go.

Dear Arthur,

Like Molly you've got a number of children, you've got a job that you love but that is underrated and you have supported those you love throughout the years. You've even been there for Harry, silent compared to Molly but there for him none the less. With all of the things going on in your life it's not surprising that you're going to have a kooky hobby that makes everyone think you're a little barmy .I don't judge you for getting a bit overexcited about it. That's fine. It's your escape from all the difficulties and worries. It's your you time.

The Shed...

The screen door screeched open and sitting on the back steps, Charlie braced his shoulders, for another confrontation with his mother. He didn’t turn around, just continued to stare out at the blackness that was the garden. The moon had yet to rise and the sky was filled with stars. It was relief that he heard his father’s footsteps on the wooden steps.

“C’mon on, then,” his father said as he passed Charlie on the steps and walked into the darkness.

Charlie stood reluctantly and followed him, he wasn’t ready for another confrontation but it was best to get it over with. As he walked down the garden path he could hear the rustle in the tall grasses, the gnomes out gathering slugs or, more likely, his mother’s strawberries. The shed door was open and Charlie slipped inside. His father’s back was to him, and he was digging into the back of the Muggle telly.

Arthur Weasley gave a satisfied grunt as he straightened up, a bottle for Ogden’s best in one hand and two glasses in the other. “Afraid I was out.” He uncapped the bottle and poured a measure in each glass. Charlie took one and slumped into the broken rocking chair in the corner, automatically bracing his legs as it sagged crookedly. His father sat down on his stool and took a sip of whiskey.

The last time they’d been in the shed like this together had been three years ago when his father, after many glares from his wife, had patted Charlie on the shoulders and said, “Time for a talk.” Charlie should have been warned what was coming by the burst of laughter from Bill, but nothing could truly have prepared him for the stumbling, stuttering birds-and-bees talk that Arthur had launched into as soon as they had sat down in the shed. Charlie had taken a few minutes to get the horrific images out of his head and had said, snarkily: “That’s interesting, Da, but what about the bees-and-the-bees?” Arthur had blanched and dug out the bottle of fire whiskey.

Tonight, though, was different.

“She’ll come around, Charlie. She will.”

“She doesn’t understand, Dad. She doesn’t--”

“I’m not sure I do either.” Arthur took a sip of the whiskey, and set down the glass on the telly. “Why don’t you explain it to me.”

“I can’t do what you want me to do, I mean, I could. I’m good enough at charms. I have the N.E.W.T.s I need to get the apprenticeship at Gringotts or the Ministry. But I don’t want that, I can’t imagine doing it, day after day.”

“It is good honest work.”

“I know it is,. Da, I do. The thought though of sitting at a desk all day. Stamping papers and sending memos.”

“But dragons, Charlie? That isn’t child’s play--”

“I’m not a child! I’m 18 years old. I’m a man and I know that this is what I want to do. You should see them. The dragons they are amazing. How they can fly and soar, in my wildest dreams I could never fly like they do. I want to help them. They are magical creatures and yet there are some who think they should be exterminated, chased down like vermin.”

“That is because they are dangerous, Charlie. You know that, that is why your mother is so upset.”

“There hasn’t been a death at the Reserve in over ten years!”

“No, but there were three the year before that, and two handlers are permanently in St. Mungo’s for the injuries they suffered.”

Charlie stared down at the glass of whiskey, rolling it in his hands. “Da, I’d rather live my life on the edge, knowing that it might all be over in the blink of an eye, but living it. To be in the wilds of Romania with those amazing creatures, it is what I want. It would be a slow, painful death if I have to spend it inside a dreary office cell, miles underground.”

“I know. I’ve known for a long time, Charlie, that you would follow a different path.” Arthur Weasley stood up and threw back the rest of his drink. “Your mother will come around, she always does, but give her time.” He walked out of the shed, letting the door swing shut behind him.

He shakes out his sleeve, still curled up under itself from when he'd yanked on his jacket that morning. The fabric clings to itself, grits its teeth, relents and falls where it should at his wrist. He doesn't look any better.

The part of his hair is extreme, pushing an orange bank of hair to one side. The side without his mangled ear. The side where he could pass for unscathed. No, this way it's prominently displayed. This way there can be no confusion. This way he won't catch a glimpse and think...

It turns people's stomachs but Fred is dead and he won't forget it and that's worth a bit of staring.

Malfoy stares when he takes George's jacket, sneers, tries to be superior when he's working in a coat check. His nod lists to the side of George's head. "I know what you're doing," he says, hisses, judges.

George blinks. "I could say the same to you."

Malfoy's gaunt, dark hollows under his eyes and in the sunken depression of his cheeks. He's trying to disappear in plain sight.

George is trying to stick out like a hippogriff in a line of horses.

It's a parallel but not a similarity. George is glad for it; he doesn't want to have things in common with the filth that killed his brother.

"I didn't."

George blinks again. Either he'd said it out loud or his face had said it for him. Either way, it doesn't much matter. It's not a sentiment he feels ashamed of having. He stares at Malfoy and his eyes are so much less grey than George remembers. And they're fierce now - like they were - but only to cover for the vulnerable in them - not like they were. "So who did you kill?"

Dear Simon,

It is nearly midnight and I am sitting on the steps of the courtyard. I tried sleeping but did nothing but toss and turn and stare at the ceiling in anticipation. I am trembling with excitement, knowing that you will be here in just a few short hours.

Mum has promised that she will let us sneak away for a little time alone, she’ll distract Da with a visit to the greenhouses. Yes, I know you must be blushing at the thought of me asking her to help us out, but won’t it be worth a little embarrassment to be able to sneak into my room? I thought so.

What I am not looking forward to is the third task, although it will be a relief to have it over with, finally. There is no more preparation I can do -- I am as fit as I can be. The exercises and running have seen to that. I’ve practiced the spells and charms, so many times I can do them in my sleep.

The entire third year Hufflepuff class volunteered to help me train -- they were my willing victims for the spell casting. Do me a favor and bring two galleons worth of Honeydukes best candies when you come, to give as a thank you for them. Hopefully, I’ll win the Triwizard and can pay you back from the prize money, otherwise I shall have to find another way to fulfill my debt to you. Hmmm. Maybe it would better if I don’t win, I would love to be your indebted servant, attending to your every need and desire.

This has been such a difficult year, I’d never realized how much I had taken for granted the privilege of being able to see you every day. I miss that so much. My favorite times were when we used to sneak off to be alone.

Do you remember when we got caught by Dumbledore in the alcove behind the charms classroom? The look on his face! I think that is when I first realized I loved you, watching as you casually tucking in your shirt and said ‘Good evening, Professor Dumbledore, fancy bumping into you here.’ as if he hadn’t just caught us completely in flagrante. Merlin, remembered how hard we laughed after he walked away saying, “Don’t let me interrupt, it is a lovely night for exercising.”

My favorite memory, though, is the night we spent up in the Astronomy tower. I don’t have to tell you why that’s my favorite.

It is foolish, I suppose, writing you such a long letter, when you will be here in the morning. You’ll hardly have a chance to read it before you have disapparate to Hogsmeade.

The sky is full of stars, and it is so still I can hear the ripple of water as the Giant Squid moves across the lake. I wish I could sleep, but I haven’t been able to shake the feeling of--I don’t know what-- dread maybe. Or premonition?

I’ve had it ever since we were shown the maze. And isn’t just the horrible things they did to our Quidditch pitch. I don’t know how mere hedges can be so threatening but these are - they are twenty feet tall and the growth so thick light can’t penetrate them. It is something more, though, that is setting me on edge.

If it weren’t for how much I am looking forward to seeing you, I would be wishing that tomorrow doesn’t come.

It isn’t fear -- I learned to fight and conquer that during the first task. Facing a dragon is rather effective way to force oneself to summon inner courage. And that day I learned that courage is more exhilarating than fear. I need to remember this as I step up to the maze entrance, knowing that you will be here, watching, helps.

I am resolved to shrug off this shroud of unease. Win or lose, tomorrow’s task will help me prepare for a far greater threat: the Death Eaters. The strange events that started at the World Cup have been increasing and Da is sure that there are worse things yet to come. He says that Dumbledore sent warnings out to the members of the old Order. I’m sure your grandfather has already received his owl. There is no doubt it happening again, and this time we will not be children sent to the country to hide, we can be part of the fight.

This is our time. We can help defeat the bastards when they come.

imera drew this lovely artwork for me with the last Dudley/Harry fest. I thought she did a great job on the both of them. Also Dudley needs some love in this fest :D

I wanted Dudley to be slim more like a boxer or fighter. And have Harry pinned to a wall for some intense snogging. :)

Rereading the HP books after getting into fanfiction has given me a whole new perspective.

In re-reading Umbridge, I love how skeevy she comes off in her interactions with Harry. Especially after being influenced by reading so many of the characters in awesomely kinky fanfics.
