This is such a gem. Draco finds that wherever he tries to travel, he ends up at Harry's house. It was great to read something genuinely new in the forced bonding trope, and I loved it. So hot, funny, romantic and really well-written. I have so many favourite lines and passages. Draco is just perfect; he's in heavenly denial about his attraction to Harry, who is exceptionally yummy. And the sex is ALL KINDS OF WONDROUS. If you only read one fic this weekend, I would make it this one.

Potter went to move past, and as he did he rested his hand on Draco's hip and side-stepped behind him.

"'scuse me, Malfoy," came Potter's voice low and right behind his ear. Potter's hand on his hip was overly warm, and Potter's front brushed up against Draco's backside as he moved behind him.

Draco's whole body became a riot of insufferable pleasure – for about three seconds.

Then Potter had moved on, and Blaise was droning on and on, and never before would Draco have thought that he'd prefer Potter's company to anyone, much less someone he used to count as a friend during the days when he had nearly no one.

This is a perfect little slice of smut and power play which takes place in the Auror trainees' changing rooms. I really enjoyed the way their agressive interactions quickly built to overwhelming need for each other.

Harry spun to face him, only Malfoy was much closer than he'd anticipated and their shoulders banged together. They bounced off each other. Harry thumped into the wall of lockers; Malfoy stumbled backwards. His arm shot out and he grabbed hold of Harry's shoulder, probably just to steady himself, but the shock of contact made Harry twist away. Malfoy's feet skidded on the slippery floor. It was as if they were dancing, and that, in combination with the burning imprint of Malfoy's fingers against his skin, made Harry shove him. Malfoy shoved him right back with his hair flopping over his face, his smirk finally gone. Chest heaving, face burning, Harry grabbed Malfoy's arm and drew back his fist.

Their eyes locked; Malfoy's were almost all pupil. "Go ahead, Potter," he whispered. "You know you want to."

Summary: What was meant to be an unexpected one-off in the loo of a Camden bar turns into something rather different, much to Harry and Draco's surprise.
Rating: Oh, so very, very NC-17
Word Count: ~38,000

I found the concept of Harry owning a record shop in Camden a bit off-putting when I first thought about it, but this fic is great. I quickly became immersed in Harry, Ron and Dennis Creevey's world of selling vinyl, radio shows and gigs. The characters are great and there's some lovely heartachey feelings along with the romance and delicious smut. Draco is especially wonderful: beautifully vulnerable but also determined and smart. There's some lovely writing:

Harry groans when his hips hit Malfoy’s and he lets go of Malfoy’s wrist only to grab his hips, fingers digging into the waistband of Malfoy’s jeans. Malfoy steps backward, pulling Harry with him deeper into the crowd, his arms slipping around Harry’s shoulders. No one seems to notice them, and even if they did, Harry wouldn't give a damn right now, not with Malfoy pressing himself up against Harry the way he is. Malfoy smells incredible, like beer and musk and something vaguely citrusy just beneath the curve of his ear that makes Harry want to press his mouth against that soft, warm skin.

God help him, but he gives in to temptation.

and some great banter and one-liners:

"The forbidden thrill of fucking one's childhood nemesis is entirely lost on you."

I haven't read that many of the longer erised fics yet; this one is long enough to get your teeth into, but nicely pacey so it flies by.

Oh, I forgot this art rec from [livejournal.com profile] hd_owlpost:

Title: The Ministry Christmas Ball
Summary: Skulking on the balcony at the Ministry Christmas Ball, Harry Potter notices Draco Malfoy. Well, he's always noticed him, but now he notices, notices him.
Art Medium: pencil and PS
Rating: G

This is a marvellous thing. There is so much going on in both of their expressions and poses. The glorious tension of the moment makes me want to write fic for it. The colours are delightful, too, and the way every little detail is perfect, such as Draco's pointy elbow, and Harry's hand cupping his own arm. <3

So, general nonsense. I bought Mr Birds a couple of t-shirts for Christmas, including this fab one:

from Threadless.

It was a lot of fun watching his face and waiting for him to see the Sherlock design. Mr Birds does like Sherlock, but this was a bit of a private joke, with the premise being that I was trying to sneak a Sherlock present past him. The finale of series 3 airs on his birthday, and he's already had a faux-sulk about me needing to watch it :DD (he doesn't mind, really - I'm not THAT mean).

My children bought me a calendar of the Deathly Hallows film, which is very cool. Each photo covers 2 pages, and the images are very striking. We were all a bit perturbed by the weird photoshop job on Maggie Smith's face, though:

WTF? Both Maggie Smith and McGonagall are nearly 80. Is she not allowed to have a few more wrinkles than that? They seem to have given her an eye lift, as well. I got really fucked off about what I saw as the rampant sexism and ageism of this, but, looking closer, everyone seems to have got a good photoshopping, it's just Maggie Smith who has been rendered virtually unrecognisable by it. Bah. I'm still really chuffed with the calendar, but I may have to biro on a few crows' feet for Minerva, heh heh.

Finally, I got to see the play Mojo, starring Rupert Grint, Colin Morgan and Ben Whishaw, and it was absolutely brilliant. Darkly funny, sharp, intense and affecting, with a fabulous ensemble cast. It's open until February, and I would highly recommend it, if you possibly have a chance to go.

Phew. That's it for now. I must try to get into the habit of making more frequent, shorter posts, not splurging all over you from time to time.

Have you got links for the first three? I like the sound of Side-Along, but have no clue where to start looking... :-(

Poor Maggie getting airbrushed! There is NO NEED (for anyone). Do film types think Joe Public are not aware of what real people look like?!

The first link I can see is the ministry Chrstmas ball - no links for the first three fics. Thanks for Side Along!

All three work now, but they look wrong - just like normal text as opposed to grey. Very odd!

You keep teasing me with Sherlock and fic rec tags in the same post, but you never go into the dark side. Whine.

Really, though, thanks for the recs - I have SO MUCH to catch up on.

And the tshirt is absolutely brilliant. Season 3 of Sherlock starts here later in January, and so far I'm pretty unspoiled.

oh, thanks for the recs! Loved that Harry in the art, and I too had enjoyed the first two fics you mentioned, but hadn't gotten to the longer one yet.

That photo of Minerva is too weird!

Post however and whenever you want, it's all good.
