A fic, some poetry, and some art. Yay!

I've seen [livejournal.com profile] firethesound's fic Matchmaker, Matchmaker recced a couple of times, and I would definitely add my voice to that - if you haven't already read it, go go go, it's an absolute treat of sexy, funny cleverness.

I thought I would have a poke about at her journal, so last night I read this, and loved it:

Title:A Portrait of the Artist
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] firethesound
Pairing(s) Harry / Draco
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~5k
Summary: When Harry Potter, reclusive artist, finally agrees to an interview, Draco can hardly believe his luck that he'll be the one to do it.

Why I loved it: FUNNY. This person is FUNNY. And she packs a lot into a short fic, which I highly approve of (short attention span = me). This story is sweet, and hilarious, and made me do snorting.

Excerpt:

Even though Draco had a hard time imagining Potter as an artist, he never for an instant doubted that he’d be good at it. Because when it came down to it, whatever it was – playing Quidditch, performing feats of magic, slaying megalomaniacal madmen – Potter never did things halfway. So when Draco walked through the door of the narrow little building Potter used for his studio, he was entirely prepared for it to be spectacular.

He wasn’t wrong.

It was indeed spectacular, and striking and sensational and breathtaking in a way that utterly defied words. He couldn’t even bring himself to tear his eyes away from it for the instant it would take to give Potter, who hovered quietly near the door, a proper greeting. Instead Draco found himself drifting past him, deeper into the room, his rapt gaze skipping from painting to painting. They covered the walls, lay in stacks on the floors, and sat propped against any available side of furniture that could support them. There were so many of them, each one more stunning than the last.

“How…” Draco began and trailed off when yet another painting caught his eye and demanded his undivided attention to marvel at it. “How long have you been doing this?”

“Um, about five years now?” Potter said.

Draco stared some more. “And… how many paintings would you say you do in a month?” He finally tore his gaze away from the paintings and met Potter’s eyes for the first time.

Potter scratched at his head. “About four or five? Sometimes less if I’m working on something bigger.”

Draco did some quick mental calculations. That was an impressively large number of paintings.

“Well?” Potter prompted when Draco continued to stare mutely around him. “What do you think?”

“I had absolutely no idea that it was possible for someone to do something so often and for so long and still be this awful at it,” Draco said honestly.

The next rec is for the most fabulous poetry.

Title: Draco Malfoy's Poems, which are definitely not about Harry Potter
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] writcraft
Pairing(s): Harry / Draco
Rating: R?
Word Count: ??
Summary: When I was rummaging through some old papers, I found a couple of poems which I thought might be of interest. I've had them authenticated and apparently they were definitely written by Draco Malfoy during his school days. Fancy that! :D
Why I loved it: Wow, these are hilarious. Draco's attempts to express his teenage emotions without letting slip that he is obsessed with Harry are inspired. I so wish I had thought of this myself. Just genius, and so funny.

The poems are at the comm [livejournal.com profile] hd_goldengirl, which was formed to celebrate [livejournal.com profile] vaysh11's birthday, and most of the entries are members only, so that it could be kept a secret before her birthday. It's easy to join and then you can read and see all of the fabulous things that people have made for her, and add your own wishes if you want! Or maybe [livejournal.com profile] writcraft will make her entry public now the secret is out?

Excerpt:

Potter’s so bad at potions it’s funny
And his best friend doesn’t have money
I wish he’d understand,
If he had taken my hand,
I would have covered his body in honey.

After all that humour I give you a little bit of angst. I don't know if you've seen that [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest are running a Holiday kisses event, where you can request prequels, sequels, remixes, art or whatever for any entries from previous smoochfests. What a superb idea! However the first piece that came into my head that I wanted more of, was not even from smoochfest, it was a piece of art from [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays. It's nearly a year old now but I am apparently still obsessed with it. O_o

Title:The Time Has Come
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] citrus_lime
Pairing(s) Harry/ Draco
Rating: G
Word Count: 269
Warnings: Steampunk AU
Summary: They said his Harry was too dangerous, with the strong clockwork mechanism inside his body in addition to having a mind of his own. They said his Harry was a cursed creation, and that he should be destroyed.

Why I loved it: This is just.... SWOON. I adore [livejournal.com profile] citrus_lime's art so much (and am missing her, *sniff*), and this is just such a gorgeous piece, I could rave about it for hours. The colours, the clothes, Draco's feather hat and his jewellery, AND HIS BOOTS, but most of all the expressions on their faces. ♥

The accompanying drabble nearly killed me, LOL. I still think about it a lot and wonder what happened. Mr Birds knows of my love for this piece and finds it very entertaining. If he wants to tease me or refer to my general idiocy, he just says "CLOCKWORK HARRY" in an ominous voice, and I usually wail amusingly for him.

Anyway, this piece is NOT eligible for Smoochfest holiday kisses, bah, but I live in hope [livejournal.com profile] citrus_lime might revisit it some day. I really really really want more art from this universe. Meanwhile I am going to enjoy going through the Smoochfest back catalogue and choosing some other things to nominate, yay!

and signal boosting for:
