Get ready for RECTOBER

Please join us for a month of recs!

Rectober is an idea to encourage reccing, reading, enjoying, commenting, sharing and discussion about fic, art  and other fanworks during the month of October. Why not take part in Rectober by pledging to make rec posts during October, and encouraging other reccers by commenting on their posts?

All fandoms, pairings, genres and ratings are welcome! Bring on the recs!

How to rec:

This is totally up to you! But here is a reccing template, with the usual info, which you can use on your journal if you are not sure how to get started. Some people like to write a lot, and include excerpts, but a simple link to the fic with a sentence or two about why you enjoyed it can be just as useful.

You can rec on your own journal, or at reccing communities, or cross post to both. hd_storyroom is a reccing comm devoted to Harry/Draco, and they are happy to receive recs from anybody. If you know of others for your fandom / pairing feel free to promote in the comments. one_bad_man is a Snape and Lucius centric comm where you can leave recs for those characters.

You can rec fic, art, podfics, fanvids, meta posts, or any other fanworks.

If you post to your own journal, it helps to leave the post unlocked so that it's available to everyone. It would be great to have a collection of links to people's Rectober posts. If you've made a post, feel free to link to it here in comments.

If you don't want to write recs yourself:

You can still take part in Rectober by reading and commenting. It's great to let a reccer know if you enjoyed reading a fic they recced, or even if you haven't read the fic yet but just like the sound of it from their post.

Also, if you enjoy a fic that's been recced to you, you can let the writer know in a comment that you came to it via a rec. Often people feel like nobody reads their recs! I have heard this many times, and it sometimes puts people off writing rec posts.

Thank you Mab! We realised fairly early on that there was a monster amount of recs being posted, so I decided to be very relaxed about how we organised this. You're very welcome to link here to your posts, but it's not compulsory at all. There was an ongoing masterlist but I think the compiler maybe got a bit bogged down! It was getting extremely long!
