Announcing the Draco Malfoy Birthday Love Fest!

Please join me for a week of Draco love and appreciation, in honour of his 33rd birthday on June 5th.

What is happening at the Love Fest? Whatever you like! Please bring your drabbles, prompts, arts, gifs, quotes, squee, meta, and general flailing. Contributions can be slash, het or gen, any pairing, maybe even a crossover, as long as Draco features. Anything from a few words about why you enjoy the character of Draco, or a gif that you thought was cute, to a multi-chapter fic (well, I can be optimistic, can't I?). ALL CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE ADORED. You don't have to restrict yourself to Perfect!Redeemed!Draco love, either; feel free to celebrate him in all his snarky, spoiled, unrepentant, irritating and glorious nastiness, if you so wish. Just warn for the usual things, if you feel like going dark or kinky.

Everyone is welcome; please don't be shy, just jump in. If no-one else comments, I will just fill up the thread by myself. :D Please post any contributions as a comment to this post, with a relevant title so people can navigate the fest more easily. eg. Prompt: Harry/Draco, or Fill: Draco/Hermione, or My favourite quotes about Draco or My favourite Draco fanart, or whatever it is you want to share.

Draco's Diary, a serial (Harry/Draco)

I decided to bring back my diary-writing Draco from The Twelve Days of Draco. The original is here: http://mini-fest.livejournal.com/88133.html, although you don't have to read that if you don't want to. All you need to know is that Harry is smitten, and Draco is, well, Draco :DDD

I will update this throughout the week as Draco finds the time to dictate it to me.

Dear Diary,

I must apologise for neglecting you. Since I last wrote in the New Year, Potter has been keeping me terribly busy in all sorts of interesting ways, and really has monopolised my time quite shockingly. I can hardly keep up with my exfoliation routine, let alone share nuggets of wit and insight here. But I have decided this must change. I owe it to future generations to preserve my thoughts for posterity. I pledge to begin again, right away, before today's triumphs and achievements are swept away by the merciless passage of Time.

This morning Pansy and I went to Tassel and Tweed's, and I bought some new underwear. I don't mind telling you that I can hardly wait until Potter sees me in them; I came out from the changing rooms so that Pansy could admire the fit, and people in the shop were practically swooning with delight. In fact an elderly witch who happened to be passing by had to be revived and given a cup of tea.

I know I was voted 'Rear of the Year' in the latest edition of Purebloods' Quarterly, but even I was surprised at how pertly divine my arse appeared in the mirror.

I may just get out of bed for a moment and have another look.

I can see resuming my diary is going to involve a lot of sacrifice and take far more of my precious time than I can easily afford, but History will thank me for the startling insights it will yield.

Draco and the Dark Mark

There is film canon of course for this, who could forget the scene where Draco brandishes the Mark on his arm. I doubt JKR would have let that pass without comment if she had not intended it to be the case that Draco took the Mark in book canon. However, there is still some debate about this which I have come across in fandom - Harry's assumption Draco has the Mark is never confirmed for the reader and it is never made explicit, although in my view the subtext is strong enough for me to consider it 'canon'

Does anyone have any views on this? In particular, does anyone fall into the camp of Draco not having been Marked?

It's been a while since I read the books so my impression might be wrong. But for some reason in my head Draco hadn't been marked because that made it simpler for him to "infiltrate" Hogwarts. Otherwise, it would have been quite easy for someone to catch a glimpse of the Mark in the showers or when he changed or just by accident.

Sadly, my favourite ever portrait of Draco has been taken down by the artist for god knows what reason. Meh. I think I have hard copy somewhere, though.

I've had passionate debates on this subject. I really think he was marked (although I agree there's no absolute proof one way or the other). He showed Borgin something on his forearm that sent the man into shock. What else could it be? (Given it sadly wasn't a werewolf bite, as I'd hoped.)

I must admit I feel the same as you - it kills me I can't point to a specific phrase which confirms it. For me the Borgin scene is confirmation enough but I know some definitely disagree, which is why I was keen to start a thread on this point <3

It isn't confirmed one way or the other in canon, although it is my view the signs point more to him being marked than not...

I would be interested if you have any other analysis on the 'not marked' side of the argument though. I love a good debate! :D

I agree that he is Marked, and that the Borgin scene confirms it, along with all the other evidence that point towards it.

It does give me a jolt initially in fic where the author has chosen to have Draco un-Marked, but in fanfic, at least, it's a totally viable choice.

I'm always interested in the 'Draco was bitten' theory but I never heard the idea that he was showing Borgin a werewolf bite. That's a great possibility.
