is accepting prompts and I am very much hoping to be able to write something this year. Apart from being fabulous and filthy fun, I think kinkfest is a really important event with its ethos of kink positivity, where kink-shaming and ship-shaming are not tolerated.

I may have left a few ideas on the prompting post and I am wildly excited at the thought that someone might pick one. I'm also hoping to find a prompt on there that I just can't resist, so if you haven't already, please do go and spill out your most deviant and delicious thoughts.

ALSO: another rec from [community profile] hd_erised...

this fic is eating my brain and I am at that stage where I'm torn between wanting to whoosh on and finish it., and also trying to slow down so it's not over *sob*. It's so funny and so original and SO BLOODY HOT. I'm in heaven. Please come and read it so we can flail together! I don't want to give away plot stuff but I think it's OK to say that it's an H/D fic which involves living in the Muggle world and also the world of pop music and a closeted Harry discovering what he likes, and features the best Parvati I've read, and phone sex that made my head pretty much catch fire. It's just FABULOUS.

Star Quality , currently anon, 118k, NC-17, Harry/Draco, summary: Two years after the war, and Harry’s content with his life. OK, so it’s a little annoying that he keeps winning Witch Weekly’sMost Eligible Bachelor award, and he’s really not looking forward to the unveiling of an enormous gold statue of himself, but he loves his friends, and he loves being an Auror. And if he yearns for something more, something he can barely bring himself to think about, well, he’ll probably get over it. No one’s happy all the time, are they?

But then everything changes, and Harry’s thrown into a new and dazzling world he’s not sure he can actually escape from. And as time goes on, he starts to wonder: does he actually want to?

OK DW just ate half my post again. Any suggestions? It seemed to happen after switching from Rich Text to HTML... everything looked fine but then when I posted, half the text, and my pretty kink picture, was gone, GRR.

Yay kinkfest! I'm excited you're planning to participate and have been drooling over your prompts! I'm also hoping to play along, but I've been making myself wait to look at prompts until prompting closes so I can go through them ALL at once. I really want to write something super depraved and filthy, which is going to be a stretch, since that's pretty much all I write anyway... LOL

And yes! That fic was brilliant! We had a lot of great submissions this year. :D

I have no idea what's going on with your posts. :( The only thing I can suggest is to turn on beta testing on their "new" update page here: https://www.dreamwidth.org/beta And see if that works better for you.

(I put "new" in quotes because it's been in beta for a long, long time. But I do like using it better than the normal posting interface. You can pick out tags right there in the entry and I'm pretty sure it defaults to html so you don't have to worry about rich text, but I'm unsure of that. If you click on settings, you can customize what options show up. The only drawback is that it doesn't autosave so if you are writing out a long post and accidentally navigate away from the page, it's all gone.)

Yes you can! Just go to the same page and there will be an option to turn it off.

I ran across this just today and thought of you. Although it's long and probably has a lot of html stuff you already know, it's written with dreamwidth in mind, and also with the new beta page in mind and has a lot of dreamwidth-only things in it. Might be a good resource for you!

Oh yeah, I really wish they had username tagging notifications and also the scheduled posts. If they had both those things, I think I'd be in heaven! Maybe one day...

I do know that the scheduling of posts has been brought up to them. Not sure about the user name tagging notifications, but I think the problem is DW only has two full time people (iirc) because they don't use ads and they won't accept any venture capital because they want to maintain ownership and keep the freedom for users to be able to post what they want. So there is no Strikethrough or the whole Tumblr purge in Dreamwidth's future, for example. That was really important to them (and one of the reasons I've always supported DW even though they don't update things very often and are very slow in this regard). They are completely funded by users buying paid time/icons, etc. Anyway, I do think scheduled posts is on their radar, I just don't know how far down their list it is. They do have a small team of volunteers but things just move really slow around here. But the payoff of that is no random out of the blue censorship and it's not going to be sold to a cooperation, etc. But yes, I do believe one of the big reasons why fests didn't move over here after the whole LJ TOS business was the scheduling. Torino and I moved Salt and Pepper over here and we've managed with the manually posting times, but that's a small fest so it's a lot easier to handle then something like Erised, I imagine!

I'm excited for all the excitement for kinkfest! I'm not sure if I'll have time; right now I'm very focused on RL stuff. But I wanted to cheer you on! :D

And also to say that I've never had trouble with DW eating a post before. Have you tried writing in a doc and copying it over so that if it does eat it, you haven't lost anything? I checked my own journal, and I think I have mine set on HTML, not that I have any idea what that actually means. LOL. Are you saving your pictures under Organize > Manage Images and then copying the thumbnail code? That always works for me. It took me a bit, though, to realize that after I'd uploaded, I couldn't just use the code on that page but had to click on 'View All Your Images' and then pick the size of thumbnail (which automatically changes the code for you, which is nice) and THEN copy that code. But I don't know that I've ever lost text. Funny, but I think that did happen to me on LJ a lot, and that's when I got in the habit of writing posts in a doc. But I haven't had to do that here, I don't think. I'm sorry you're having that issue, and I hope somebody else has some good advice for you. ♥

Dreamwidth posting is still such a mystery to me. I hope someone more knowledgeable is able to help us both out!

I’m also hoping to write for hp kinkiest! And maybe even prompt?! And thanks for the erised rec, it looks so good! I’ve finally found time to start reading some of them :)

Thanks for the rec, I've heard great things about this fic. Once I finish the two books on my TBR pile, I'll get on to Star Quality, but it'll possibly be end of month.

As for DW, I never had any problems because I don't deal with pesky html lol. I write everything on the Rich Text format, press post, and voila! All done!
(I don't know the first thing about posting images though)

I've started saving and/or previewing after every html coding entry I make to make sure it is going through okay. I save it to my private journal. Then when I'm finished and everything seems to have been properly saved, I switch to post to everyone. Otherwise I end up having the same issues. I generally put my own html coding it for it all.

I've yet to try and include any pictures, not willing to tempt that yet.

Re your kink prompts: so I was reading through some of them the other day and cackled bc I could totally tell yours without reading your name on them. I just made me smile and a little wistful for the good ol days on LJ, but I too will press on here at DW.
