 Hello lovely people! I feel like I've been away for ages because I was trying to finish a thing, and then when I'd finished the thing, I was trying to do all the things I'd neglected while I was trying to finish the thing.

*sigh* Dreamwidth doesn't get any prettier or easier to use, does it? Never mind, here we are. I noticed a few people coming back from tumblr, and personally I am hoping to be around a bit more in 2019, but I don't really feel confident that I friended everyone over here that I was friends with on LJ. The lack of fest comms over here also makes it tricky - how do you make new friends? I dunno. Anyway, I'll make this post public and if anyone sees it and thinks that we are not friends and we should be, or they'd like to be, please do nudge me. I'll friend pretty much anyone who has an actual journal that posts fandom stuff.

I haven't read much at Erised yet but everything has been bloody wonderful! Either I was lucky, or everything there is in fact amazing. I'm going to start with MY GIFT, did you see it yet? My *hearteyes* beautiful *swoon* perfect ARTTTTTTT!

Isn't it absolutely gorgeous? I'm over the moon with this captured moment of yearning and desire. Draco's face is just killing me in a kind of slow tortured ecstasy. I would adore the artist to get all the love that she deserves, although that would break AO3, but I'd love people to leave her MANY comments, anyway.

This was a real pleasure and judging by the comments, the exploration of biphobia has touched on something personal for a lot of readers. Gorgeous snark, lots of lovely exploration and really hot enthusiastic smut.

“Fine.” Draco grits his teeth. “We’ll play. Potter here doesn’t have to get involved.”

“Why?” Harry narrows his eyes at Draco.

Draco makes a strangled sound in the back of his throat. “Because you don’t want to feel up men in a cupboard, Potter.”

Harry folds his arms, holding Draco’s gaze. “I might.”

I've read mostly the shorter Erised fics and I'd highly rec Predictable Little Curses, Cryptography, and the one I read just now, which melted my entire brain, Sex and the Art of Castle Maintenance. I've started So Heal Me, and that seems promising too.

Yay recs!! I've really loved SO many fics this year, including all of these. A couple others I really enjoyed are today's fic, with exactness grinds he all (6k, gorgeous writing!), It's Not a Passing Fascination, (10k so a quicker read!), & For Thine Is The Kingdom (66k vampire!Draco fic!). And a bunch more, honestly, but I figured I'd keep the number reasonable, LOL.

That's probably true! I guess it feels like it's been a bit for me since I left them because I took a decently long break from fandom. (Also I didn't realize people really noticed, lurking from the background and leaving comments haha) but happy to know they did and even more happy to actually be interacting ♥

I agree! I'm new to his whole journal thing (I got involved much later than LJ) but I feel like it's so nice and comfortable, and a place to truly converse. Tumblr moves too fast and doesn't lend itself easily to tracking any type of conversation, much less nuanced or in-depth ones.

There are some real plus points about it. I wish it was easier to share images, and that the whole site didn't feel clunky, but it still works up to a point, and I think the payoff - to get to have (mostly :D) civilised conversations - is worth it.

I've not done much more than post and do an under the cut that actually worked (!) but sharing pictures does sound a bit challenging. But yeah, I think you're right and the ability to track conversations is super nice and I'm glad to be having them :)

I find it bemusing that DW would be difficult to use for someone who used LJ, but that's not a criticism - I remember a friend saying she basically missed forums for the whole time LJ was big, and she took to Tumblr v well. Different strokes etc.

Snickfic did a friending meme recently, for the finding of people :) And copperbadge on Tumblr has a 'where to find me' spreadsheet thingy linked at the top of his Tumblr.

Truly, I find it very difficult! The layout makes it hard for me to find things, the tagging system is weird and difficult, composing a post seems full of troubles and often things go wrong for no reason. I just lost 50% of a post which took ages to compose and it still looks wonky even though I just tried to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestions for friending... I've taken part in friending memes before and seldom found anyone I really connected with in the long term, tbh. Fests and discussions on friends' journals have given me meaningful connections with people who were currently engaged with fandom in the same way I was. I don't know if the tumblr spreadsheet would be useful to me, as I wasn't on tumblr? I'm sure that would be useful for people leaving tumblr to come to DW.
