to answer your question, From what I remember --Ig said that because the Horns were beginning to mess him up and really turning him bad and make him lose hope in people.

and then he finds out that the girl didn't really cheated on him at all that it was A. someone lying to cover themselves (spoiler: the guy who killed her said it to cover himself) and B. the girl let him believe that because she really was dying of a form of really aggresive cancer, like her sister did who got really aggressive and mean and fatalist in the cancer progression, and she wanted to cut off Ig completely that way he wouldn't suffer when she died of cancer, like she did when the sister died. ) so Ig regain his "goodness"/good memories of her.
(but then the ending implied that they both end in Hell and WTF? I hope the movie changes that too- even If Im not going to see it, that was a shitty thing to do to the girl's soul- cause the book implied she became like- a reward for Ig in hell.) but that's all I'm going to talk about after all because I just realized that even this little bit is getting me upset from remembering the book.
