The basilisk is scary if you are young! I found the change from jolly to dark was too sudden and too severe. I do like the more adult tone in the later books, but it bothered me in POA, I think partly because Harry's still so clearly a child.
Yes yes to knowing Lupin in real life! I adore lots of other characters, but I wouldn't want to actually spend time with them!
