Yes. Well-written villains add so much to a story. I don't know why I find Voldemort so lacking. His backstory is pretty interesting. I just feel detached from him, and I notice nobody mentioned him as their most hated character, despite him being the biggest baddie. I wonder if it's because he has lost so much humanity that he ceases to arouse our emotions in the same way that Umbridge does. It would be like hating a robot or a machine.
