No, they totally fibbed and told us it was a standalone! I didn't start to twig Sherlock was in his mind palace until quite a way into the Moriarty scene. I was totally taken by surprise, and delighted about it. When we switched to modern day I felt like I was on drugs myself. I enjoyed the deception very much.

I would imagine it might be quite confusing without having seen S3... and if you found S2 self-satisfied and obsessed with meta then I probably couldn't recommend S3 :///
