DanRad Appreciation Society

I notice young Mr Radcliffe has been quite busy of late. I will say up front that he is not my Harry, although I am terribly fond of the HP films. But he seems an absolute sweetheart, and unlike certain actors we know, whenever he opens his mouth (as himself) to speak about anything of note, something really fabulous usually comes out. I also thought he was actually bloody good in Kill Your Darlings.

Anyway, here are the trailers for his two latest films. What do you think? Will you be going to see either of these? He does seem to avoid with a vengeance the possibility of being typecast in his roles, and these two films seem in particular contrast. I can easily see him in a romantic comedy, being a sort of self-deprecating, funny, adorable chap, because I think that's who he actually IS. I'm not at all sure yet about seeing him with the US accent and the raunchy edginess of Horns. But I'm perfectly happy to be convinced.

Trailer for What If...  Awkward jokes! Kooking around! Changing room shenanigans! Laughing at someone who fell out of a window!

Geeky note: The guy whose girlfriend Dan appears to be trying to steal (BAD Dan!) is played by Rafe Spall, Timothy Spall's son. An AU where Harry is in love with Peter Pettigrew's son's girlfriend, anyone? Er, perhaps not.

And, here's the trailer for Horns. Moodiness! Raunchy kissing! Laughing demonically at people fist-fighting! A pitchfork! A big fuck off snake!

(link here if the embedded video doesn't work)

I also heard that Dan had some fun going incognito at Comic-Con by wearing a Spiderman outfit and talking in a US accent. Quite a few people stopped and had their photo taken with him, not having a clue who was under the suit.

Mr Radcliffe! So mischievous! Can you imagine getting home and finding out on the internet who the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman actually was?

Oh, these look great! I need to see them :D He is a great actor, I think! I sort of didn't appreciate that in Harry Potter (he always played the same character, so really all I could say was 'he plays that character well', but he's done so many different things since then, and some of them were stellar -- yes, KYD! God, his Ginsberg is flawless!) OMG DanRad... he's so tiny! And I know he's tiny, but I always find it shocking anyway xD

Oh, for God's sake, I really can't type today. Sorry about the million edits xD

OMG AGAIN! What am I doing? xD

Well I watched the Horns trailer without sound because I'm blow-drying my hair, but it LOOKS pretty dadgum appealing lol. An evil looking/acting Daniel with horns is something I could get behind x) And Joe Anderson, mmmmhm!

[identity profile] tamlane.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
WOW! Thanks for posting these, Birds. Horns looks awesome. Dan looking/acting wicked is huge turn-on, I guess because I'm so used to him as the hero.

[identity profile] teas-me.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually read the book when I found out DanRad was doing Horns. The book is dark and AMAZE. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing the film. About the American accent, I think I can deal with it... after all Tom Felton is doing a tv show on TNT (Murder in the First), and he's using the American accent too, which isn't terrible... ?

[identity profile] emansil-12.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you. Daniel is not my Harry, but I do love Daniel. He seems genuinely to be a good guy (and I mean that in the strongest sort of complimentary way).

Both of those look really good, and if given a chance, I'll try to see both of them. Horns, looks especially intriguing.

[identity profile] sdkshelly.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
In movies, romantic comedies aren't really my thing, but I'll probably see this one because Dan is so damn adorable, omg. Horns looks really intriguing! Dark and a bit twisted, yes? American accent!Dan is going to take some getting used to, but I'm excited about the movie. (My movie tastes are pretty much the complete opposite of my fanfic tastes, weirdly.)

[identity profile] blithelybonny.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like DRad just gets more and more charming every day, which is a nice change of pace from the usual child star to douchebag transformation. coughSHIAcough.

That said, I'm probably not going to go see What If, but Horns looks like everything. I love Joe Hill, though, so I'd see anything of his. :)

[identity profile] kedavranox.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohmigosh his peen in that Spiderman suit though.

Eta: Horns!! I tried so hard to read that book once, but I lost interest. So weird that it's a movie now!

glad I'm not the only one that couldn't stomach Horns (apologies for the mini rant)

[identity profile] nevrafire.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I forced myself to finish it (but I skipped a lot) and it Really Messed Me Up- Badly. Also Hate that it got made into a movie with Dan in it. (although from what I heard they toned down/cut off most of the really unpalatable stuff from the book so there's that at least. *you can't really have a "heartbreaking love story if the protagonist goes into a rant of what a B*** the girlfriend was for dumping him and how she/women deserve to end like (she did aka raped/dead) because they "play loose with their body/lead you on"- No joking that was in the book and it pissed me off)

that and... other things, I'm not going to go into details because it would give me anxiety again. (i'm willing to elaborate on a pm so as not to sour the post more)

so yeah, Not looking forward to that coming out at all. I can't wait for it to come out then for it to go away so It's not keeping me on edge anymore.

(from what I seen from the reception it got in TIFF most people didn't liked it. [as in, Dan gets heaped on praises (althought the "Best role of his Career" is BS because Equus and Kill Your Darlings were 100% better) and that it's "visually beautiful" but the movie itself gets criticized A LOT for being choppy and all over the place and not coherent at all].

if we're going by horror I liked The Woman in Black way better and "Frankenstein" looks way more promising.

Haha! I sort of can't help it, I'm a hopeless perfectionist *hides in shame* And yes, Ginsberg, OMG! It was so easy to believe that was him, you know? Even though it obviously wasn't. But he seemed to real!

now What If on the other hand....

[identity profile] nevrafire.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That I'm fully on board with. It looks really great and smart romantic comedy
(I like the will they/won't they? thing of it and I really wonder if they'll get together in the end)

I think Dan has great potential as a romantic lead, and I hope it's not the last time he does a romantic-type movie.

(also he has really sweet chemistry with the actress that plays Chandry- who, in the spirit of making hp references (did not know timothy spall had a son?) she reminds me a bit of Luna Lovegood for some reason?

but yeah What If looks Great and I heard great things for the Premise of Frankenstein. (pity Tokyo Vice didn't fell through- that one sounded Awesome)

Dan dressed as spiderman made me smile a dork. (And I saw that video of Everyone in Hall H at comic-con singing him "Happy Birthday" and that was so sweet.

I agree, too, he's not looking to be type-casted and good on him for that!

oh that was just ONE thing of the MANY that upset me. But the others ones upset me too much to talk about them too much.

to answer your question, From what I remember --Ig said that because the Horns were beginning to mess him up and really turning him bad and make him lose hope in people.

Also- SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
and then he finds out that the girl didn't really cheated on him at all that it was A. someone lying to cover themselves (spoiler: the guy who killed her said it to cover himself) and B. the girl let him believe that because she really was dying of a form of really aggresive cancer, like her sister did who got really aggressive and mean and fatalist in the cancer progression, and she wanted to cut off Ig completely that way he wouldn't suffer when she died of cancer, like she did when the sister died. ) so Ig regain his "goodness"/good memories of her.
(but then the ending implied that they both end in Hell and WTF? I hope the movie changes that too- even If Im not going to see it, that was a shitty thing to do to the girl's soul- cause the book implied she became like- a reward for Ig in hell.) but that's all I'm going to talk about after all because I just realized that even this little bit is getting me upset from remembering the book.

Well I'm not saying soon-soon but at another point in his career. (although from what I heard his character in Frankenstein does have a romantic subplot? )

so I think he's not averse about doing romance it just has to be interesting and well done and not just the typical air-y romance.

Re: glad I'm not the only one that couldn't stomach Horns (apologies for the mini rant)

You're welcome.

As much as I Hate the book/movie and wish people not go see it, that's bound to happen (probably one of the reasons why they chose to cast Dan and plaster his face all over the promotion of this- so his fans would all go see it *eyeroll* althought at least the big R rating will stop the large teen crowd from adding numbers to the viewageship [yes I know I'm being terribly petty- I just hate this book/movie that much)

But spoiling people would not only be a Mean thing to do (I'm angry at the author & the book/movie Not Dan or the people who read/see this, so taking out on them would be bad), it would get people upset at me and I don't want that.

I mean on top of me dumping a rant on here (which I hope you forgive me for)

yes, I don't think a book before this one has upset/mess me up this much in.... ever.
But at least, regardless of the author's credentials, this book/movie is sort of fad-y so it's not like it's going to go up in history as amazing piece of literature/cinema. people are probably going to forget about it soon.

(not like any of the author's father stuff, and Harry Potter/any of Dan's future projects is going to forever overshadow this so...)

and hey, at least now I have someone who I know that I can ask wether or not the awful awful stuff that upset me stayed in the movie, without actually seeing the darn thing. so there's that.

okay I'll stop now I promise. I don't want to sound bratty.

if anything, thanks for being open and understanding to let me talk about this.

It took a lot of weight off my chest. so thanks.

Agreed that Daniel Radcliffe is not my Harry, but I do love that the public face of Harry Potter belongs to someone who seems to have real affection for the character. And who seems to have quite a good head on his shoulders, including stuff like going incognito at comic con so as to get the full experience. Having a Robert Pattinson type who went around maligning the series would've been a bit heartbreaking. (Aside: it would've been SO COOL to find out you had a secret picture with DanRad!)

Not sure that Horns is up my alley, but What If looks lovely and worth a watch. His press for it has been nice as well - I keep seeing him come out against the idea of the "friendzone," which, A+. And we really don't see to much of him as the romantic hero in HP. I'm intrigued!

Oh! I saw this pic of him as spiderman and <333

He's the most lovely thing ever. Every time I read an interview of him, I swear, he's the sweetest guy, only love him more and more.

Re: glad I'm not the only one that couldn't stomach Horns (apologies for the mini rant)

[identity profile] nevrafire.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay, thanks for listening.

and don't feel bad- the movie is in full promotion all over the place and you like Dan and didn't know about how messy the book was- so how could you have known?

plus, other than you I haven't really talking about it with anyone- because I don't want people to think i'm being a drama queen.

but I'm all vent/rant-out. there's piling evidence that movie got toned wayyyyyy down so that's really lifted the weight off and I'm ready to move on.

(If annoyed you with it I'm really sorry & I also hope I didn't soured your post? :S )

(at least there's What If? & Frankenstein in the future too- when that comes out i'm more than happy to geek out over that. ;)

Edited 2014-07-29 20:57 (UTC)

Oh yeah!!!

[identity profile] nevrafire.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I Saw that!

I loved when every-interviewer asking the movie-related "so can guys & girls really be friends/and have you ever been friendzoned?" and Dan goes "friendzone is a horrible word that only resentful guys use when a girl won't sleep with them."

That just added to my list of things of "why Dan Radcliffe is awesome"

[identity profile] kedavranox.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I refused to look at any of the Equus things because it creeped me out. I still see him as a teenager for some reason.

The book just got a little weird and uniteresting to me. But it was summer in New York and I was doing many other things and having crushes, so I might have been distracted :P

[identity profile] kedavranox.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's weird, until recently (that tumblr post about the internet loving him) I always saw Dan as really arrogant. :-/

I guess I'll give him a chance now :P

[identity profile] facecat.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
'Horns' was such a good book. Can't wait to see the movie. Just wish it didn't take them so flippin' long to release them. They've been done for over a year I believe.

OH I LOVE DAN RAD :D

I saw the spidey stuff, and really just wanted to squish his cheeks. He can be my Harry - he's not exactly as I picture him but he does, sometimes, just make my Harry-muse heart swell I have to say. I think this is largely because I sometimes use fanvids for a muse kickstart when I'm struggling for stuff to write.

I'm particularly interested in What If... I think that looks great! <3

ETA: Were you going to do a Harry birthday thing, Birds? I know there was Draco stuff afoot, and wanted to have a Harry love-in on the 31 July on my LJ, but won't if something is in the works.
