This week's general nonsense, part 2

Right, a matter of great pressing importance. Mr Birds broke my favourite mug for tea, and I need another one.

The last one had the Ace of Spades on for some reason, but I thought this time it would be nice to have a fannish mug. I had a hunt about online and didn't find anything relating to HP that I liked. They were mostly based around the films and not particularly nice graphics.

I thought of asking one of our lovely fanartists if they minded me getting some of their H/D art printed onto a mug, but that leaves me in the situation of having to explain to people like our babysitter, or my mother, why I have nekkid gay wizards or whatever on my mug. By the time I had explained, the tea would be cold.

So finally I looked at Sherlock mugs instead. Well! You can get a much better class of BBC Sherlock-related mugs  than you can HP, apparently. I have narrowed it down to two, and now I can't decide.

There's this one, which is classic and chic and black and white, which appeals to me. I can't see myself having to explain anything about this mug, no matter who drops in.

Or there's this one, which is funny and has lots of lovely fannish injokes on it. It isn't gay wizards, but it's not exactly the sophisticated mug of a grown-up, either. And Mr Birds would ask what it all meant and I would tell him and he would sigh.

So, what to do? Over to you, my dear flist.

Ha, maybe! I had never considered tea-drinking something worthy of photography before.

Mugs are serious business!

I vote for both mugs because you can use the fun one when you're in a fun mood and the serious one when you want to feel snooty. And because you can never have enough mugs. And you should still look for a HP mug for you-times.

I think you should pay for one and Mr Birds for the other. Equality and all that jazz. Even though they're both your mugs it's part of the price he pays for the privilege of being allowed to be around your awesomeness ;)

I like your style! you know, I don't think Mr Birds is going to be convinced by that explanation, though. He erroneously believes that he is the awesome one in the family (and as he does most of the washing up and tea-drinking, he is quite possibly right...)

IKR? I am hoping to go back to the Warner Bros tour later in the year. Maybe I will buy one then. Maybe it will be cheaper there? (unlikely, everything was priced as if studded with diamonds...)

I voted for the Sherlocked mug, and JK Rowling to pay for it, as she's got plenty to spare. However, if I were you I'd keep my eyes open for a good HP mug as well.

Really, though, my main criterion would be that the mug not be made of oo-thik china. Granted, thick mugs keep your tea hot for longer, but they're distinctly less classy.

Oh I actually prefer a thick one! (fnarr) It's more comforting to drink from, and I like the feel of it in your hand (honestly, not actually trying to be rude here).

I agree about JKR paying. As I added the option, I thought "SHE can afford a mug or two" :D

I shall have to return to Leighton House to get you a v v expensive peacock-inspired mug. That could be your HP one. I had a cup of tea in the one I bought as a gift when we went, and I thought of you and peacocks and Draco, and it was perfect.

I don't think it's a very good idea for me to have expensive mugs. We chip everything in this house, sadly.

I am a well-known accidental-smasher-of-crockery, and sometimes I think it is just nice to have something beautiful: it doesn't have to last for ever.

My mother-in-law gave me a replacement teapot the other day, because she had guessed that I had already broken the last one she'd given me. I had, too.

Aw :-( I get upset if I like something and it breaks. I should be more relaxed about it. I wasn't fussed about the old mug, but if I got a special one I think I would be.

He broke your mug!!! FOUL!!!!!! I say HP mug all the way. However I am a big fan of my inappropriate for the season mugs. I usually buy mugs for very cheap after Christmas. So while it's burning hot in mid-July I can look at my snowy Christmas trees and *sigh* imagine I wasn't sweating to death.
