... are we doing Rectober again this year?

I am just trying to ~PLAN~ and ~PLOT~ and ~ORGANISE MY TIME~ and, OK, if I am honest, procrastinate because I am meant to be editing, LOL. But it was a lot of fun last year, and I notice that hd_fan_fair, hp_silencio, samhain_smut, hp_creatures and hp_laughs (and probably other things I missed) are all posting around then, so there should be lots to keep our reccing fingers busy with... what do you think?

If you have no idea what Rectober is, the idea is to have a month celebrating recs for fanworks. Participants pledge to post recs, as frequently as they feel they want to, or to support the fest by reading from recs and leaving comments, or commenting on rec posts to let the person know you enjoyed their recs, or any other way you want to join in.

NO, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RECTUMS.**  It's a portmanteau word for Rec and October, OK? It's not my fault it came out that way.

Anyway! Please click and tick and comment and let me know what you think. Last year people pledged anything from daily rec posts, to one post during the month, so the commitment could be as big or small as you choose.

Rectober will always be multi-fandom, any pairing, any genre, whatever you like.

I'd love to commit - but I seriously blow at reccing. I have such vanilla tastes, but I'm always thrilled to peruse recs and have found some great stuff because of them. *grins*

Plus I'm hoping I'll be quite busy with modding things *proofing all the great fic that comes in early* for hd_erised lolol ♥

Reccing. Of course I would do. I'm doing it all the time with books here, books and fics on my blogs. No problem to switch to fics for some weeks.

May I ask what reading from recs is? Literally like mab with her gorgeous podfics or like quoting form fics? Or is it something else? Sorry, I'm still trying to adjust to all the fandom slang (Do you know how many abbreviations I've never heard before are flying around here?).

And I would comment too. I'm trying to comment on everything I just finished now. Why should I change that during October?

It will be a nice distraction from all the nervous breakdowns I'll probably get over my hd_erised story.

Ah reading from recs would be using other people's recs to choose yourself some nice fics. And, if possible, saying something like "here via nia's rec" when you comment on that fic. The idea is just to generally raise the profile of reccing and to let reccers feel appreciated.

You could also rec books, of course, but the focus is generally all fanworks. I came up with the idea last year. When I came to fandom there were plenty of rec posts around, and I do notice it has dwindled a bit... which is natural, of course, but we tried to give people a bit of confidence if they felt like having a go, and to let regular reccers know that people do read and enjoy their recs. It can sometimes feel unappreciated, from posts I have read.

Plus it's such a major treat as a writer to get a rec. I think all of us get a big thrill when we're lucky enough to have that happen.

That reminds me of my long gone days as a praticing vet. If one wasn't careful a thermometer could get easily swallowed by a cow rectum. And wearing a glove up to the shoulder and proding in aforementioned end of the cow wasn't always fun. I'm really, really glad I'm not working as a vet anymore. But the job got me some crazy stories to tell. Sorry, for babbling around.
