You think *I* was ready to write for a major fest when I signed up for fan fair? I had never written a single thing beforehand, LOL! I don't even know what got into me. Anyway, I wanted to say, apart from length, that piece you wrote for the comment fest was totally polished enough to be fest-quality. So you don't need to shy away because of that.
It's interesting what you say about remix... the last thing I want to do is put someone OFF writing for a fest that they fancy, but personally, I found remixing someone else's fic far harder than anything else I've attempted in fandom. It's such an intimate undertaking - a fearful mixture of writing FOR someone and writing ABOUT someone's own personal creation. Like if JKR was going to read my fanfic. O_o
My advice would be, go for a straight up prompt fest. It's not a gift and you don't even have to stick to the prompt if you get sidetracked in another direction. But that's just my own preference!
