I pledged to do one rec post a week, so here it it is. My first recs are all from
hd_fan_fair. \o/ This is one of my very favourite fests and I always love the crazy, original, hot, crackish and awesome things that come out of it, and the possibilities of all the different professions.
The Critiquer (NC-17, 24,500 words) was written for probably the best prompt of the fest. Possibly you've all read it, but, gosh, it's very funny. Draco is an anonymous cock critiquer from whom Harry is determined to get a good report. This would be wonderful enough by itself, but there's also some lovely business about Draco running a photography class. Harry is so dedicated to getting a top critique, it cracks me up, and he's so wonderfully cross each time he gets another criticism. The supporting cast are very entertaining, too.
Every Step of the Way (maybe R? art). This stuns me every time I look at it. Harry is a therapist and Draco, his rentboy client. The progression of their relationship, both professional and WILDLY, WONDERFULLY unprofessional, is shown here in five drawings. The MA, who is (somewhat unfairly, some might say) just as ruddy talented with words as with art, absolutely nails it in every one. It's compelling, clever, and really fucking hot. By the end we feel as skewered as Harry, flailing and helpless to resist. I adore all of this artist's work, but this one is stellar.
Draco Malfoy: Toilet Supremo (PG-13, 26k) Oh, god. Even the title makes me want to die. Poor Draco - the things we put him through in order to get him and Harry to bum each other. This is probably the most ridiculous prompt I have ever dreamt up. But I KNEW it could be great, and this is the proof. Draco turns up on Harry's doorstep every day and tries to sell him a toilet. GOLDEN. It's hilarious, but amazingly sweet and romantic, too, and, god, I just love this fandom and its creators so much. How could anyone ever want to leave a fandom in which things like this happen?
All Mine (PG, art). asdfghjkl;sdfghjkl;'dfghjkl;. ADAM ANT!HARRY. Yup. I've been craving this for a LONG time, and this beloved mystery artist gave it to me so damn good that I hardly know what to do with myself. Harry is a pop star (who just happens to dress like Adam Ant BE STILL MY BEATING HEART) and Draco is his manager, who is controlling him in some undisclosed, sinister, magical way from behind the scenes. It's SO PRETTY. The monochrome is so moody and delicious, and the whole thing is so amazingly creepy and beautiful at the same time. I just love it.
I'm a bit behind with my reading, but I've been so excited to see the wonderful flurry of recs across my flist this week! Rectober is in full force and it's not too late to jump in and join us. Participants list here if you fancy browsing for recs, using the Rectober tag, and all the info is here if you'd like to sign up and start reccing. ♥
